Welp, this is a bummer. We've eaten at Stout, both Hollywood and SM, a handful of times. I find their food and beer super tasty, and the service has been passable at worst. This was before we were saddled with a babe. We walked in with our (sleeping and quiet) baby in her stroller today at 11:30, the host made an "oof" face at us and muttered "yikes" under his breath. He asked us to fold up the stroller and stash it in a corner (again: with a baby sleeping in it) since it's "so tight in here." This is where I point out that there are exactly zero other patrons in the place since we got there right at opening in order to avoid this mess. Yes the tables are tightly packed, but there was nothing keeping them from accommodating us except for a possible impending influx of people. We walked around the corner to a jam-packed restaurant, and they quickly accommodated us - WITH the stroller.

Incredible food incredible beer. Where to begin? The service is always perfect; the servers are kind and they never make you wait a second to be served/greeted/given more information on their multitude of choices of gourmet burgers and beers. They change their beer selection frequently and always carry a variety that impresses me and makes me stay for at Least three beers (and I'm not even in the ballpark of being an alcoholic). Also they are open late and the vibe is always the same casual calm open airy beachside aura that you would want and expect from a beachside restaurant. Really fairly priced. Love it here!

No fuss menu, very reminiscent of Umami but with more options: burgers & some sandwiches, sides (fries, etc), salads, beer. I've only had their belgian golden (dark ales aren't my thing), and they are all good. Burger is fairly priced for what you get, granted fries are extra. But that's commonplace these days. Of the burgers I've tried, I keep going back to their Truffle Shuffle. For those who dislike mushrooms (i wouldn't be friends with you!). Stout's truffle burger is a couple notches above Umami's. It has sauteed mushrooms, and the brie is creamy perfection. The Mr loves their Morning After, that has an egg over easy. It's a good spin on the breakfast/ brunch burger, one that you want to eat at any time of day. The six weeker is good if you like fig. I happen to love fig, but it can get a bit overpowering. I like my burger flavors a bit more classic (in a savory kind of way). The Stout burger is my second choice behind the Truffle. It's like a steakhouse meal in one burger (the blue cheese, horseradish, carmelized onions). Blue cheese can be assertive and it is not for everyone, so be forewarned. There is likely a burger that fits your liking. If burger isn't your thing, they have chicken and veggie sandwiches and salads. I come here to be a good carnivore though - so beef & beer for me. I can't comment on the other stuff. The place is small, the tables packed pretty close. Half their tables are on the sidewalk patio, so you can see if they are busy before committing. It's really not bad, you are steps away from Ocean Ave and the beach and the 3rd St Promenade, you'll find ways to fill your time during the wait for a table.

I really would like to give this place more than 3 stars, but I can't. The service is nice and friendly, nice ambience. I went there in a whim, killing time while waiting for my friend. It seemed like a good option. They have nice selection of beer. I've got sour ale and it was delicious. The menu is very simple and seems like nothing could go wrong. I've got skinny version of Truffle Shuffle and the side of fries. Now, I understand that it's a busy location and tourists from the 3rd are pouring there, but it took way too long for my order to come out. So, the "skinny" burger is served on a bed of arugula or something else, and it came DRENCHED in lemon juice. At first I thought it supposed to be a part of the recipe, but my taste buds protested that. It was so acidic, that I couldn't taste any beef in my burger. or anything at all. I thought I'd sent it back to the kitchen, but figured out, that I cannot wait for another half an hour for my dish to come out. Plus I was starving. I don't know if anybody else experienced it. I've been getting "burger in a bowl" kind of thing for a long time and never had this happen to me before. Very disappointing. Since sides are separated, you end up paying more than it's worth. Not sure I will revisit. Plenty of other decent burger places out there.

Good place to go for a burger and beer. They have 7 different types of 'gourmet' burgers. They're on the small side, but they're juicy and flavorful. My favorite is the six weeker, which has brie, fig jam, arugula, and caramelized onions. So good. The stout burger is also pretty tasty. They have two types each of veggie burgers and chicken burgers, but I haven't tried them. I love their onion rings, and their fries are pretty good as well, but nothing to write home about. They have a decent beer selection. Service was pretty attentive. Would go back.

Burger with potential. Not going to pay $10 for my burger to moo at me, but seriously did you even cook the burger?! Selected the option with "no pink" came extra rare... over $5 of my meal went into the trash.

We stopped in for a drink. The female bartender was rude. Paid no attention to our four person party directly in front of her. Having an awesome intense cinco with a kid on the corner. Hope she scored. Won't return.

Been wanting to try Stout for a few months now and I finally got around too it... I don't live in the area and I am honestly making Stout my new go to food spot down here. The Shu Burger was amazing. I only give it 4 stars because a few beers that were on the menu were not available to drink. Overall great food. Thumbs up

Meh. Overpriced, mediocre burger that left me with stomach issues. On the plus side, the fries were good and they have a phenomenal beer selection. I probably won't go back, there are better places literally a block away.

There's some place you love, some places that are okay and then there's some places you love! I can't explain why, but for me, Stout falls into the latter category. I appreciate the pairing suggestions and I like the limited menu. Not a phone book of items that leaves you wondering what they hell you just ordered or ate. I went with the Goombah. How could I not, with a name like that? For my beer, I went with the Allagash. The ingredients in the burger just worked for me. I could have and would have had a second however, I've not been heeding to my workout routine lately and I've been feeling it around the midsection. Or more to the point, my belt, pant buttons and clasps have been. It was one of those times in life for me, when everything was in alignment. From the parking, to the wait, to the service, to the food. I should have bought a lottery ticket that night.

I ordered the Stout Burger "skinny style" and I must say it was one of the BEST burgers I have ever eaten. EVER. It was pure, juicy, and mouthwatering. I can't quite recall the exact beer I ordered but I remember it wasn't on the menu. It was one of their sour beers and it was incredible. I cannot wait to go back!!

This place is fantastic! You can't beat the location in beautiful Santa Monica just two blocks from the beach and the burgers are to die for! My favorite burger is the morning after which is a hit of empty cheese, phenomenal rosemary bacon, a perfectly cooked eggs that breaks into a runny mess android of course the mouth bartering and exquisitely cooked burger Patty. Definitely come hungry because you will want to indulge in their onion rings and soft pretzel as well. The servers and bar tenders are equally amazing with great attitudes and a vast knowledge of beers. Take a seat at the bar if you can. Its the best place to be, closest to the beer and very informative bar tender.

came here after a night of bar hopping..we started early so it about 1030ish getting here on a friday night and the place was still pretty busy...good location, very close to the waters...this was my first time at Stout and I was pretty happy with my experience. The pretzel appetizer comes with 3 sauces you choose from the list but we had the server pick them for us so i dont remember but it was great...pretzels are always overpriced for what they are, but when your in the mood for one it def hits the spot..I shared the Morning After burger, prob not the best burger i've had but still very well composed, it has more traditional flavors compared to umami...the cheesy fries w/ homemade ketcup is also a hit... def one of the better burger joints...will be back to try the other burgers and beers

I thought the burgers were ok though my bf liked them. We ordered the Stout Burger and the Truffle Shuffle. We usually share our food so we asked if they could cut the burgers in half for us. Most places do this regardless but we were told that our placesettings had knives so we can cut them ourselves. Okay, that works too. Anyhow, I took a bite of the Stout Burger and felt that it wasn't as moist as others I've tasted. My bf thought it may be a bit overcooked. We finished our halves and went on to try the second one and it was cooked the same way. Come to think of it, normally we're asked how we want it cooked, Stout doesn't do that. I think theirs are medium to medium-well. Actually, upon further discussion, he pointed out that leaner meats can also be drier so that may be another possible reason. Anyhow, the Stout Burger was ok. I don't think it's worth the $13 price tag. All the ingredients sounded good but all I really tasted was the beef, bacon and horseradish. I did not taste the blue cheese or anything else at all. As for the truffle shuffle, that was better- I love mushrooms and I could taste the truffle oil which is good. Overall, the food was fine. The fries were pretty good and the drinks were reasonably priced. Wine was $7 compared to the $12 elsewhere. Service though was lacking. They never checked if we wanted a second round of drinks and it took a while to get the check. Set-up is pretty cool- very simple but open so that you can people-watch outside and you can also see the ocean if you are sitting in one of the seats along the outside.

I really enjoyed this burger n beer bar. The service was great and the cute waitress really knew her beer and also was willing to bring many samples by.. Her recommendations were on point. I went with the trufflin shuffle burger and it paired w my draft IPA better than ever, which was all her recommendations.. Outdoor street seating was fun, they also were considerate with the heaters and my requests for different temps the entire time I was there.. Small restaurant but Bathrooms were clean.

Coworkers and I came here for lunch. I don't drink but was excited to try the burgers here. Since I'm Pakistani, I did the cliche thing and I ended up going with the Bollywood burger and it was excellent. I tend to like veggie burgers, but this was one of the best that I've ever had. I like my food spicy and this definitely had a kick to it. The sweet potato, regular fries, and onion rings were very good too. The bartender was awesome and we got everything out pretty quickly. All in all, a very solid place. Will come back soon.

Stout has some great food and service to match. Unlike other places that refuse to have ketchup in house (this has become a weird novelty), this place (like anywhere else) gives you what you want. Yeah yeah, don't insult the chef, I get it, but snobbery is for pacifists. They serve beer and open late!

HOORAY FOR STOUT IN SAMO! I've already reviewed the Hollywood location, but if you're yelping Stout SaMo, you need to know just how damn wonderful Stout is. Hands down, best burgers in LA that I've tried thus far. Great flavor combos, perfect buns, and suuuper juicy. My favorite is the Stout burger - the combination of the onions, bacon, roasted tomatoes, and horseradish is seriously amazing. SO much flavor. The Six Weeker is pretty awesome too, if you're looking for something a little milder and sweeter (it's got fig jam on it! YUM). The beer selection is fantastic. They always have selections from my favorite brewery, Allagash, as well as a whole bunch of other great stuff. The Lagunitas Pils our waitress recommended on Thursday was nice and refreshing. Service is great. Everyone is friendly, and how could you not be when you're serving up delicious juicy hamburgers?! If you have a dietary restriction that requires that an item be removed from the burger, they'll accommodate you. But you can't start creating your own burger by adding and substituting things all willy-nilly. To me, that's a very fair policy (and I'm speaking as someone who never adds, deletes, or substitutes - ME WANT ALL THINGS ON ME BURGER). SO happy to finally have a Stout location on the Westside...you can bet that I'll be coming in here often!

Stout is a great go-to for burgers and beer. The ambiance is casual and fun, and the service is always good. Both the Santa Monica location and the Hollywood location are consistent. As a vegetarian, I also love that they have a couple of veggie burger options! Both are delicious.

Went here at 1AM on a Saturday. There was a group of 11 of us. I got the seasoned fries and morning after burger. Everything my group received had an insanely amount of salt on it. I understand that it was late at night, but our tastebuds were still intact. My burger was cooked perfectly--medium rare with an overeasy egg. However, when everyone in your party thinks that the dishes were too salty--that's a problem The service, however, was great. They asked us for our order right away; we received it as soon as humanly possible. They refilled our waters without us needing to ask for it. Side note--the outside is pet friendly.

I love gourmet burgers, but compared to Plan Check (or even Bachi Burger), this place was just all right. The burgers are not cheap ($11-13) and not as big and flavorful as Plan Check, leaving me with a sad bank account instead of a happy food coma. They also have a variety of beers (~$7), and suggest pairings for each time of burger on the menu. As a girl who doesn't really like beer, the Citra Pale Ale was pretty good. ***Try the mozzarella cheese fries!! They're not on the menu, but they were pretty good.

I don't eat red meat, but I still frequent burger places as my hubby is a typical guy and loves a good burger. Most places will sub out any burger you want with a veggie pattie, so I was really excited to try the weekender or the truffle shuffle. Imagine my disappointment when after I ordered I was told there are absolutely no substitutions. This includes no switching out a beef patty for a veggie, no changing your sauce, and no additions. This bursted my bubble and started off my dinner on a sour note as the veggie options didn't sound nearly as exciting. The food ended up to be excellent though and I would go back again during their happy hour (all burgers half off, M-Fri 4-6pm). What we had: Cali fresh veggie burger (4/5 stars): one of the best veggie patties I've had! It does have a strong taste though so it slightly overpowers whatever toppings you have. I eliminated the thousand island dressing and asked for a side of truffle aioli (this is the only loop hole to the no substitutions rule and of course there's an extra charge). Truffle shuffle (3/5 stars): patty was burned and the mushrooms were cold, otherwise hubby would've loved it. Fries (4/5 stars): seasoned with oregano and so good! We ordered a selection of sauces to go with. Our faves: truffle aioli (I love me some truffle) and chutney (sweet and spicy!) I'd definitely go back and try the Bollywood veggie burger just because I loved the chutney so much! Bread pudding (4/5 stars): an awesome bread pudding! Although we couldn't eat most of the top part because it was burned. Solid choice, good food. Really 3.5 stars but I'm rounding down because the service was pretty bad. The place was empty and our waiter was almost always no where to be found. When we did flag him down, he was slightly rude and not very helpful. Plus my hubby burned himself on the bread pudding. If a dish is super hot, waiters usually warn you. It's a small thing, but small things go a long way.

I'm always on the hunt for a good burger so I yelped and found Stout. The Santa Monica location is designed to look like a garage. It's super casual and the service is friendly but nothing extra special. (I was clearly finished with my meal and it took a good fifteen minutes for someone to ask if I wanted anything else or the check). It borders on being a bit divey but maybe that's the vibe it wants. Anyway, there's a total of eight different beef burgers, two chicken options and two veggie options. Although the menu states burgers are served medium or medium rare I ordered the Imperialist (aged cheddar, ketchup, mustard relish, roasted tomatoes) and asked for medium well sans cheddar and my request was granted by the Stout gods in the kitchen. You can take items off the burgers but no add ons are allowed. On a scale of one (1) to ten (10) I'd give the burger a seven (7). The burger itself wasn't well seasoned but the combination of the mustard relish and tomatoes gave it a good flavor. The burger also wasn't greasy for which I'm grateful. Not sure that I would visit again because I'm looking for amazing and this was just slightly above average. It's worth a visit if you're in the area but if you skip it you're not missing much. For the price, you're probably better off catching a burger from BurgerFi or Shake Shack.

We were hanging out around 3rd street Promenade and needed a place for a quick lunch. We randomly Yelped this place. Service was friendly and quick. I got the Truffle Shuffle burger and my friend got the Six Weeker burger. Truffle Shuffle was easily the winner for me. It had just the right hint of truffle, nothing too overpowering. It also has mushrooms, which are my favorite. I got to try the Six Weeker and I didn't like it because it was too sweet with the fig/jam. Their patties are pretty good. There are no substitutions! And the burgers come by itself, you have to order the fries separate. We got the skinny fries to share and they were good. Burgers are good, but a little overpriced imo. I will be back if I'm in the area.

Stout is a small bar in Santa Monica. My buddies and I ended our bar-hoping here before we called it a night. When we walked in, we noticed only a handful of people inside. Granted, it was about 1 in the morning. We sat at the bar, and the bartender allowed us to try out their different beers before making our order. I liked the horchata beer, but I ordered the allagash, which is my all-time favorite beer. My buddies ordered their beers, and we chilled here until 2 am. The inside decor is pretty cool, and it has a laid-back vibe that reminds me of the south bay beach cities. The staff here was pretty cool, and were attentive to our needs. I noticed they also serve food here, and I will be back to try it out. Stay tuned for an update.

Some of the best burgers I have ever had. My favorite part is they have 2 temperatures they will prepare it. Pink, or no pink. I once was told if a burger place won't cook your burger medium rare, don't ever eat there. If you like beer selection, and aren't hungry this is still a solid choice. If you're hungry it's better! I ordered the Cali-Fresh Burger... I know what I stated earlier but hear me out! I think the benchmark of a great burger joint is how well they can do the non-meat stuff too! I gotta tell you, it's good! It's really good! The other burger my friend had was "The Morning After" There's an egg on it! That should be it! I know people are mostly like "Oh wrap that thing in bacon!" For me, it's egg! I mean yea, there was bacon on it too... Also ordered fries. I'd say good not great. There was basil on them, and it was a little charred. chard basil has an off putting flavor. The fries held back the 5th star.

The burgers here are good but I feel like they're a bit overpriced. I do like that you can get the burgers "skinny stout style", aka without the bun and on a bed of arugula or lettuce. I tried the six weeker, which was a nice blend of sweet and savory. The caramelized onions and fig jam are really sweet, so a little goes a long way! No substitutions are allowed, not even swapping out the beef patty for a vegetarian one, which I find kind of annoying. On a more positive note, service is good here, as are the fries!

OMG AHHH THIS BURGER JOINT IS THE BESTTT! Eh.. excuse me! I just happen to get really excited when I come upon a really good burger. I stumbled upon Stout while visiting the Santa Monica area last month. The place looks really cool. It's decorated very well and the place was packed. A great sign! Our server was a very sweet lady, I can't remember her name, but she took great care in explaining the menu with us even though she was pretty busy. When I told her I was in a rose mood, she recommended a really good wine that was just what I needed after a long day on the beach and walking along the pier. We started our meal with a really big pretzel that was soft and delicious. I ordered the Six Weeker since I'm a fan of the sweet/savory. It has brie, fig jam, arugula, and caramelized onions. It was to die for. The beef was cooked perfectly and I ended up finishing my entire burger, which is unusual for me. My dinner companions both ordered the SHU burger. They both couldn't stop raving about how good it was. We all split a side of fries and between the three of us, we had so much food, we all left very satisfied. I wish I had room for dessert because the options looked promising. Unfortunetly we did not. Overall this was one of the best burger joints I've had the pleasure of visiting. I will recommend Stout to all my friends visiting the Santa Monica area.

Food: My friend and I came here for lunch the day before the LA Marathon. It was a great place to have my favorite and usual meal, a burger and some beers. For my burger, I ordered The Morning After. It wasn't a fancy looking burger, but it had two ingredients that I love, a fried egg and chipotle ketchup. For my beer, I had a couple of Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpins. This beer is starting to become my favorite non-stout/porter beer. Service: We received great service. Our waitress made sure to check up on us from time to time. She made sure that we had enough to drink at all times. Location: This location is great! It's so close to the beach that you can take a walk down to the pier after your meal. One of the reasons why people love living in Southern California. The restaurant isn't that big so it can get crowded. Overall: I'm pretty sure I'll be back to try their other burgers in the near future.

This is as close to a Gastropub we have in Santa Monica. I really like the openness and the tap beer selection. Although this is a burger joint, there are two vegetarian burgers and vegetarian sides: Soft pretzel, fries, sweet potato fries, ect. I had the Bollywood veggie burger over the arugula, it was delicious. My only complaint was the arugula had a little too much lemon for my taste. Other items my group loved: The giant soft pretzel Sweet potato fries The truffle shuffle burger This place is not conducive to large groups. It really only accommodates one or two groups of six (6). I plan on returning next time I venture to 3rd street.

Delicious juicy burgers! We also ordered the sweet potato fries and they were very crispy and melting in our mouth! So delicious! We got here at happy hour and we spent $20 for our entire meal (2 burgers + sweet potato fries + coke). Very great customer service also!

Solid burgers. Delicious cheese fries. All in all solid - but why the 5 stars??? Here's why....the bread pudding is OFF THE CHARTS AMAZING. I don't even really like dessert but this is truly something else. Go to enjoy the burgers beers and fries/rings but for the love of God save room for the bread pudding.

Horrible service! My friend asked to remove the cheese from her burger because she's kosher, he removed the cheese but put nothing else in there so she asked for a side of lettuce, and they refused! No matter how hard we tried, we could not get a piece of lettuce, that's absurd, I had the kale salad, which is surprisingly very good. But our waitress and the manager were rude, they need to work on that.

As far as burgers go, Stout is definitely up there in LA. It's a nice, small spot next to the beach. The only downside to Stout is that it is a pretty open restaurant, so if the weather's cold, you're going to be freezing while eating. What I love about this place is that they recommend a type of beer for each burger. + GOOMBAH BURGER. The Lemon Aioli and the crispy prosciutto are a great mix. The citrus flavor is a great touch and the prosciutto just adds additional juiciness to the already moist burger. + CHEESE FRIES. I don't think these were on the menu, but they were serving them when we went. Definitely get these as an accompaniment since the burgers don't come with side fries. The cheese was perfectly melted and the fries were seasoned well with thyme

Came here for lunch with a retired colleague. We came around noon and were seated promptly. The service was quick and the waitstaff were friendly. I had the Imperialist burger, the arugula salad, a root beer and a brownie. And, I sampled my friend's sweet potato fries. The Imperialist was simply a perfectly cooked (some pink), juicy, burger. While I loved the crispy onions on the salad, I didn't particularly care for the house dressing in the arugula salad; next time, I'll go with ranch or something. Loved the sweet potato fries and the root beer soda. The brownie (no ice cream) was sooo rich!! It was really good but I am glad we split it and that I passed on the ice cream. So, all in all, a good lunch. I don't drink beer so I can't comment on what that was like. I'l likely stop in again.

Food was delicious but the hostess tonight was picking and choosing between how she treated her customers. Besides that he food was delicious although slightly overpriced. The burgers don't come with fries and a fry portion is enough for one maybe two. The burger was amazing and almost worth all the flaws. I got the Over Asy which was so amazing! However, you cannot add Avo which was disappointing. The server and staff assisting our server were fantastic.

I stumbled into Stout with my friend Will after completing the LA Marathon. I was famished after running 26.2 miles through the streets of LA, Hollywood and Samo. Stout did not disappoint! I ordered the Stout burger and it was beyond delicious! I highly recommend that you try their burgers. They know how to cook em and top em right! The carmelized onions and Bleu cheese were delicious on top. The ale the waitress recommended was also good. I will be back next time I'm in the area!!!

Establishment is well located, right next to a great Spanish Tapas bar and with a decent view of the ocean. As for the food, the hamburger bun was good, held together well and the wait person noted that the menu was chef driven, meaning there were no substitutes but one could remove things from a menu item. Now kids, I appreciate respect for the chef but hey, burgers and salads - oh well, I take it as another fascinating aspect of LA culture. I ordered the burger medium rare but it was rather raw on the middle part - I like steak tartar and it was good grass feed beef but when you go there, make sure you define what you mean - if you want medium rare - warm pink in the middle of the burger, not red. I did have the arugula salad and it was delicious with a light lemon vinaigrette - my father had another salad, also made with arugula - not as good - but okay. As for the beers, they are surprisingly on the heavy side when it comes to alcohol - I might recommend a bit wider selection in the 5% to 7% range - most of the selection was in the 10% to 12% range - but maybe that is part of the stout brand - I did have an oatmeal stout on nitro that was more in the 5% range and it was delicious - good clean lines - they know how to serve a beer. Overall I think this is a nice addition to the food ecosystem in Santa Monica and it is easy to get to from the bus system if one does not want to drive.

I stumbled into Stout late Saturday night with my bf. I had been with a few friends earlier celebrating a birthday and once I left I was starving. The food at Stout was definitely solid. We ordered the California Veggie burger and the Stout burger. Both were phenomenal. The only downside to this place was the service. Our waitress didn't check up on us so we had to constantly keep an eye out for her in order to get anything we needed. We also asked her a question about the drinks menu and she had no idea what some of the brews were.

Burgers were absolutely delicious, cooked perfectly, great prices especially at happy hour, half off. Bread pudding did not disappoint, would highly recommend.

Great burger! Great beer! Our server was nice as well! It was clean and pretty fast! Only I would think for being called stout they would have a larger selection of stouts. But they have one of my favorites there so good for that! And our food was perfect!

This is a good place for burgers and beers. I like the open air seating (opens to the patio) because you can people watch. My go to burger here is the goombah, because it has a touch of lemon which is something I've never tasted before. Something else to try is the Truffle-Shuffle which has mushrooms which is also really good. No substitutions but you can take out things from your burger. My usual dining choice if I'm hanging around 3rd street promenade.

this place tastes so good!!! Had heard good reviews about it before so went to see what the fuss was about and it definitely exceeded expectations. All staff were super helpful and welcoming. The burgers we got were delicious, as were the fries. AND we loved everything so much we got dessert to share

It looked really good on yelp but it was a mediocre burger. Don't get me wrong it was good but not as amazing as everyone raves about. Personally I thought hook burger, in n out or even umami burger is better than here.

The burgers here are incredible. I got the Truffle Shuffle and it was SO yummy!!!!! The meat and toppings were flavorful and the textures were fantastic. I also want to try the six weeker, but would definitely be happy ordering the Truffle Shuffle again. Highly recommend!!!

The Stout burger was honestly one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. We shared the sweet potato fries and the onion rings between the three of us. Great location too.

My friend is a burger fanatic and she said this was her favorite burger place. EVER. TRUFFLE SHUFFLE (Sauteed Mushrooms / Brie / Truffle Aioli) Juicy burger, but was it memorable? Not really. Truffle aioli wasn't as aromatic as I hoped it would be. yelp.com/biz_photos/stou… Seasoned Fries Fries were delicious! Thin and crispy! yelp.com/biz_photos/stou… Gourment Bread Pudding I don't like bread pudding normally - it's the texture that throws the whole dish off for me. However, I thoroughly enjoyed this one! The texture was softer and to top off the dish, there was vanilla ice cream! Ice cream makes everything better. yelp.com/biz_photos/stou…

Hit up Stout in Santa Monica and it was a great spot for a warm winter day. Right by the beach and great service. I ordered a BBQ chicken burger and some awesome sweet potato fries. I brought my puppy and she was treated with a lot of love. The service was awesome so I really recommend hitting this place up if you're looking for an awesome burger!

Full disclosure, this was not my first choice for a burger while visiting Santa Monica. My first option was that other well known burger bar on Montana Ave, but being that we had a youngster with us we had to settle for Stout, since our first choice is 21 and over. I can't speak for the rest of our group but I enjoyed my order. I had the stout burger medium rare. I'm not big on having blood all over my plate but I chose to try something new. It was better than I hoped since I was a little nervous to try it that way. The blue cheese, gruyere, caramelized onions, bacon, and roasted tomato all paired well. I coupled my burger with a Hoptologist pale ale and that was a perfect way to enjoy it. We also tried the cheese fries which have rosemary over them, those were delicious. My girlfriend had the morning after burger protein style and was disappointed because she like me, chose to go medium, but she knew she would most likely not like her plate drizzled with beef blood. My cousin had the truffle shuffle burger and she seemed a little less than excited about it. Overall, I chose to give Stout four stars because they have a stellar happy hour. Although it's not your traditional happy hour, discounted drinks, it's discounted food items. You get half off on all burgers during happy hour. If gourmet burgers at half off don't scream bargain I don't know what will. That last star was lacking because there's only one place where I've had a burger with blue cheese that has set the bar for my standards, the stout burger sadly fell short.

The place had a great vibe, seating, and very viewable TVs for the football game. We had to wait a few minutes to get a table but after a minute the bar opened up which we sat at for a minute. Once we were seated our server met us quickly and told us the specials. We got the cheese fries and they were amazing! They had fresh oregano on top and the fries were crispy and plentiful. We also got a Caesar salad before and it was light and refreshing. It was mostly spinach and the best part were the croutons. We got the stout burger and the truffle burger. They both had a lot of flavors and were very filling and pleasing. It looked like they had some great beers on draft and bottles. The stout burger had a very much horsradish taste but it blended well with the flavors. The onion confit topping and bacon were very good as well.

So the hubby and I try to share one cheat meal a week, meaning when we choose a restaurant it better be worth the calories. We discovered Stout maybe two months ago and have been there multiple times. We've had burgers up and down the west side and Stout's patties are hard to beat! They're substantial portion-wise. Whatever they use to season their patties soaks into the meat making it very flavorful. We've had the 'truffle truffle' and 'morning after' burgers and they are SO worth every bite. I loved it so much I actually went three weeks in a row by myself and ordered food for pickup, glutton that I am. Parked on Ocean and watched the runners speed by. Ha! Also, the fresh bread pudding with butterscotch and chocolate chips a la mode is like heaven if heaven was pure carbs. Give it at least 15 mins prep time. Now if only they could make their fries as good as Umami's truffle fries I'd say they were perfect. But hey, this is a burger and beer joint with one of my favorite desserts (which is HUGE coming from my sweet tooth) and it does a mighty fine job at that. Suggest you call ahead as sometimes the restaurant is rented out. It's only happened to us once, but that could have been devastating had we cancelled our other reservations on a Friday night. As far as reservations, they'll reserve for parties of 10 and above. Located right next to Bar Pintxo on Santa Monica just before Ocean Blvd. If you tend to get cold easily I'd bring a light jacket when breezy as the restaurant is open air towards Santa Monica blvd; there are heat lamps. It's a good place to grab a drink with a few friends. There are two TVs above the bar to watch the current sporting event of the moment. No valet parking, but you can conveniently park in the large structures on 2nd Street free for 90 minutes. Or there's a flat parking lot if close proximity is a priority. We happened to waltz in one Friday night because hubby was craving a burger and I was waiting for Sugarfish to call my name (I was craving sushi until I saw his burger come out and couldn't help but devour 3/4 of it.) I'm so glad we did. Enjoy!

We were wandering Santa Monica forlornly the day after a wedding, looking for a place to imbibe and relax. We couldn't find any place that wasn't too shwanky or crowded it seemed. Then we spotted the wall of taps and 2 spare seats at the bar. After our first trip, we went back 2 more times for a total of 3 trips in 2 days... That's how much we loved it. They have beer and wine, no full bar. But the craft beer selection is fantastic. 30 taps from all over the US with lots of styles!! I was far from home but they had my favorite, my comfort beer, Victory Hop Devil. On Nitro no less! My husband drank all the IPAs, some pale ales, and a wheatwine. Happily. Food wise, we got a pretzel, cheese fries (neither on the menu but available upon request), and the bread pudding. We didn't have any of the burgers, but they looked and smelled amazing on their way out! The beer choices and comfy overall feel of the bar with TVs, to watch Lebron score his game winning buzzer shot against the Bulls, nets the place 4 solid stars but the people working adds the extra star. Specifically the manager and bartender, Rob and Janell. Just absolutely stellar people who were so friendly and charming. We felt tended to and cared about, while they let me sing with the tunes. They remembered us on our returns and kept joking with us, even with hands full. A server, I believe her name was Lauren, kept us laughing, regaling us with tales of Las Vegas, helping the time fly along as we waited for a dinner meetup. It felt like my home bar came to Cali, and it was just a stellar experience. So happy we walked by that first time.

My husband went to the Hollywood location and couldn't stop talking about this place. So for his birthday this year, I planned his birthday lunch there. There were 12 of us, so we got there right when they opened to make sure we get seating. To this day, he still says it's the best burger he's had in Cali. - Stout burger : this is the thing to get apparently. - Bread pudding : YUMMY - Sweet Potato fries: YUMMY Notes: - They do not take reservations - They do not make changes/substitutions to their menu items. I honestly don't mind restaurants that do this. The chefs have a certain way of serving THEIR food and if you don't like it, no one is twisting your arm to eat there. - All meat is cooked medium rare (I think...or medium?). I forget, but it's cooked the right way. Service was OUTSTANDING. Our server was attentive and knew his beers. You're allowed to sample beers, so if you're not sure of something, just ask. They also make beer and soda floats~ Definitely would recommend and come back.

I had a great experience. I came in later at night, around 10:30p and say at the bar. I had an excellent California brewery beer, Russ Stout style, but I can't recall the name. I ordered the sunrise (burger with egg and bacon on it), and it was moist and delicious.

I found another great veggie burger! The original reason why I started yelping was to find great veggie burgers and review them for other semi-vegetarian ppl out there. This place is great! It has a semi outdoor patio and an open air type of restaurant. We sat out on the patio. I got the Bollywood veggie burger and it was absolutely delish! The patty is home made with quinoa and beans and comes with chutney mayo, arugula, tomato and sharp cheddar. Amazing! My hubby got the Six Weeker which he couldn't stop talking about. It had brie, fig jam, arugula and carmelized onions on it. Our friend got the Stout burger which she also enjoyed. The sweet potato fries were thick and delicious. The prices are kinda pricey about 10 dollars for the veggie burger and 12-15 for the meaty burgers. The service was great and we had a lovely time! We will definitely be back! Not sure if they have a HH, but hope they do!

Pretty good burger. I like burgers juicy so it delivered. Size is decent. Not too big but not too small like the Umami burger. Was not a fan of the cheese fries. Not crispy at all. I think they may microwave the cheese which I am not fan. Otherwise i hear the pretzel is good. May come back to try that.

Maybe I had too high of expectations of this place going in after hearing a ton of food things about it, but I was fairly disappointed in the burger. It also may be that I hold a high standard to places that are burger joints. I don't go out for burgers too often but when I do I expect a darn good burger. I ordered the Shu burger expecting it to be spicy. Maybe all the orange is the new black had some influence as well. Anyways, the burger was not at all spicy and lacked flavor. They do have a good beer selection though so if you're looking to sit and have a few beers it's not a bad spot. It's very airy since the front of the restaurant opens wide up which makes it good on a nice day.

I'm going to have to be the needle in the hay stack with this one. The burgers do not wow me as much as others have stated in their reviews. I am, however, a fan of their skinny style which turns their burgers into an entrée salad. I typically order the chicken burger skinny style. But the rules of not being able to customize and then stuck with the one page menu they have makes me feel restricted. In addition, I have dine at this location a couple of times and my fries are not always the warmest. I do suggest getting the onion rings over fries. My experience overall is okay. Not the greatest but definitely not the worst.

The food is pretty good.. I got the goombah burger which was zesty and delicious. However, the service was so rude. I was with my boss and some other people to have a meeting no one could decide where to sit for maybe about 10 seconds and they were being rude (the staff) and making rude comments like "come on guys any chair any day now." I just thought that was a bit unnecessary. Then when we went to order food the waitress was kind of annoyed by the indecisiveness and she showed it. She just had a different personality and I guess expecting everyone else to have the same personality. if they didn't she was not cool with you which to me for a place like that shouldn't have people like that. The food was good though

This may be the best burger in Santa Monica! And to make it even better, the food is 1/2 off during happy hour! I think it's 4-6pm Monday thru Friday. The beef is so delicious and juicy. I get the stout burger and I have them leave off the horseradish.

Just like many gourmet burgers these days, they're all pretttyyyy on par with each other. I enjoyed half and half, of: Shu burger (Pepper Jack / Light bell pepper spread / Spicy Chipotle Sauce): Good, but definitely not spicy enough, as I believe this is meant to be their only "hot" burger Goombah (Parmasiano Flakes / Smoked Mozzerella / Crispy Prosciutto / Lemon Basil Aoli): Crispy Prosciutto (bacon), MAKES this burger. I would re-order this burger just because of that. On the plus side, they pair the burgers for you with a beer. Also, there are no substitutions, but you can remove items from the burger. On the down side, the burgers don't come with fries or sides, and parties of 6 or more get charged 20% gratuity. So, in the end..$18 for a burger, was on the high side, but I wouldn't go as far to say i wouldn't come back

  • Jeremy L.

Everything was top notch! I would say the burgers are on par with Umami burgers. Not my favorite, however definitely in the 'great' class of the gourmet burgers. The SHU burger: Not spicy at all but still had good flavor. The Stout burger: Awesome flavor and every ingredient was pronounced. Of the 2, I would probably get the stout again. Like Umami however, they're small, itty bitty burgers. I sort of like them that way though. Just good flavor throughout, and leaves enough room to enjoy the beer and dessert. Sweet Potato Fries: Perfect amount of crispiness on the outside but was still nice and soft on the inside. So good!!! Great draft beer selection. I hear the wine selection is good too however I didn't dive into that menu. Atmosphere: Reminds me of Simmzy's. Chill outdoor vibe and the servers are pretty laid back, though not as knowledgeable of the draft selection. Kids: We came here with a couple kids. I don't really recommend this place with kids, however we came early enough to make it work. That seems to be our thing nowadays. If we have the kids, hit up places early before the crowds get there. Much more enjoyable that way. Overall, I would say this place is as good as it gets if you're looking for great burgers and craft beer.

Solid four. Wife and I stopped by for a relaxing dinner. The place was lively, but not crowded and we got a table right away, even though it was 7pm Saturday night- doesn't that normally portend a mediocre meal at best? Not so at Stout. The waitstaff was polite and mostly attentive. They offered us time to taste the beers on tap (the creme ale really hit the spot for me) and made some good recs that we went with- stout burger for me, skinny truffle shuffle for the missus, and seasoned fries to share. The stout burger was spot on- I liked the sweetness of the tomato contrasting with the horseradish kick. The meat was tender and juicy, and the bun was super soft. The wife's skinny truffle (which was really a salad instead of a bun) was a swift truffle kick in the mouth, with a nice touch of melted brie and mushrooms too. The fries were spot on, with just the right bit of rosemary to season it. Definately coming back! We do love a good burger every once in a while and Stout serves 'em up well (medium rare, actually)!

The burgers looked really yummy and they had a great beer selection but the no substitution policy is absolutely ridiculous and very presumptuous of a restaurant. I'm paying good money to eat your food and if I want a chicken patty instead of a beef patty that shouldn't be a deal breaker. The waitress was nice and the location was clean but be prepared to play by their rules when you eat here. Probably won't be back. I'd rather give my money to a restaurant that wants to serve patrons.

This place is OK....not in love with it. The beer selection is ok......I am more of an IPA/Hoppy beer guy and there isn't much of a selection. Burgers are ok, the sweet potato fries are really good though.

4 dollar Hh price on several beers. Great tasty flavors on burgers. A la cart. The B56 was by far the most flavorful, moist, and gratifying burger, furthermore, chicken burger I have probably ever tasted. Sweet potato fries were cooked to perfection with an ever-so-light crispy batter on the outside, leading to the salty and sweet potato within. The pretzle is worth the money- the cream cheese pepper dip is outstanding, with a robust pepper flavor and creaminess from the cheese that creates a harmony when paired with the doughy, salted pretzle. Service was outstanding, no delays in water refills, so friendly with all staff, and overall can't wait to go back.

This place is fantastic. No wonder why I have come here 3 times since moving to the area a month and a half ago. The beer selection is great, I'm yet to find a beer I didn't enjoy. The staff was nice enough to let my date swap the beer she ordered for the one I was drinking, because she preferred it. The customer service here has always been fantastic. You can tell when a restaurant has staff who work well together and enjoy where they work and this is one of those places. Now the Burgers. They are phenomenal. I've had 3 of them so far and in my opinion blow places like Umami out of the water. Stout is truly a top notch burger joint.

I am surprised by the reviews. I thought this place was only OK. The service was really good, and very friendly. The burgers were OK. I thought mine was over-done (it was pretty much gray all the way through). Also, mine had a horseradish spread that I didn't really like. The pretzel was good (although I didn't like any of the sauces).

Food is great. I've had the morning after and the low and slow. GET THE SWEET POTATOE FRIES, they are so good. Good selection of craft beers as well. They have 2 TVs so you can watch games. Staff is friendly. This one is a little smaller than the one I've been to in studio city.

Not much of a burger person but that changed soon as I first visited Stout with my bf last summer! Been going here religiously ever since. ONLY PLACE I CAN FINISH A WHOLE BURGER!!!! Plus their sweet potato fries are to die for!!!!!! Really really great burger joint! Must check out if you're ever in the area! Just across from the pier as well. My favorite burger? THE MORNING AFTER!!!! YUUUUUUM!!!

Nice casual and cool vibe. Indoor and outdoor seating, down the street from 3rd street promenade and a block away from the beach. Their servers and bartenders are friendly. I ordered the truffle shuffle burger which had great flavors and a big heaping of mushrooms on it. The meat was cooked perfectly and came out juicy and flavorful. It was a $13 burger, but it was worth it. I also got a glass of the Summer Solstice, which was sweet and crisp. I don't really drink beers, but how could I not at Stout. The bartender was really helpful asking what kind of flavors and notes I like when I do drink and he brought me a couple samples till he figured out the right kind of beer for me based on my taste. Really nice.

This is the second time we have eaten here. Since this place is so great, I wanted to share my review. Arrived at 4:30 PM and we had our "service dog" with us. Eric was nice enough to let us pick our seat on the patio. Their menu is pretty simple so we ordered promptly. Eric was very helpful pairing my beer with the burger I ordered and I'm glad I took his advice. The burgers here are hand crafted and it is evident by the flavor. Our burgers were cooked to a perfect medium rare and the buns they use melt in your mouth. My wife and I shared an order of onion rings. They were crispy and hot. I ended up drinking two of their wheat grass Belgian beers that had just arrived. With peek a boo views of the Pacific Ocean, and the pride they take in their food, this is a must try for anyone looking for a good burger and beer eatery. We live walking distance, so we will definitely be returning. Thank you for the hospitality

I order from yelp to pick up just to find out they don't check the online orders from yelp. Then they told it will take only five minutes in the end it took almost 15 minutes. The burger had a lot to much mustard so that was the only taste i felt. Really disappointed from this meal

The burgers are cooked to perfection here. Pretty simple menu. You're not allowed to add any items to the way the burger is made but you're allowed to have them take things off. The people here are extremely friendly but the service was really slow. We had to ask our server several times for water, napkins, etc. She never brought my beer so I just gave up on attempting to get it. I would highly recommend getting the pretzel with all the sauces. It was delicious.

This place is pretty good, I tried the Shu Burger which was really good because it was really different from any burger I've ever had. I only got it since it has chipotle sauce on it, but I didn't even taste it on their sadly. But the fries are to die for, the sweet potato fries were honesty the best ones I've had so far, not everyone can pull these off, but they certainly did! I also tried the seasoned fries, I wasn't really a fan of those. But besides that I really liked this places, it kind of reminded me of Umami but just a little bit better :)

3 of us came in on a Sunday for dinner and were seated right away. We all ordered burgers and shared the onion rings, sweet potato fries, and seasoned fries. All yummy!! I got the morning after (burger with an egg over easy on top) and it was delicious. One of those meals that hit the spot when you're craving a restaurant burger. Even the simple arugula said was good. We had no complaints.

My girlfriend is obsessed with stout burger , so when she heard that there was one in Santa Monica , there was no chance of eating somewhere else. It was a good choice. The location is super small and modern . The beer taps looked sick and the beer bottle chandelier was a dope touch . This is what we ended up ordering : The stout burger (blue cheese, Emi gruyere, rosemary bacon , carmelized onion, horseradish cream and roasted tomatoes) Goombah burger (parmasiano flakes, smoked mozzarella, crispy prosciutto and lemon basil aioli. French Fries A glass Cabernet Sauvignon A ballast point IPA And some bread pudding . My burger was the stout burger . I got it medium rare and damn..... I was a happy boy. That gruyere with the CRISPY bacon ( bacon should be crispy ) and that horseradish cream really created some nice flavors ( a little heat and tartness from the horseradish cream, sweetness from the onions and that salty gooeyness from the bacon and cheese ..........lawd Jesus !!!!! Washing all that goodness down with that ballast point IPA was perfect . The beer really had a different flavor once consumed after a bite of the burger. The bitterness from the hops became a mellow , almost slightly sweet taste on the back on the palate . The only knock on the burger is that it is a little petite and that the bun is underwhelming .(sidenote: neither stout or umami's buns come close to plan checks buns) I got a bite of my girlfriends goombah burger and it was pretty good. I didn't get enough to judge it properly but the small sample I got was enough to make me want to order it next time. The Cabernet Sauvignon was smooth like a baby's bottom. Yeah! Now for the grand finale.........that freakin' bread pudding . Well worth the money and wait. Goooey sweet salty buttery . Damn damn DAYUMMMMM!! The vanilla ice cream was perfect with that pudding . It wasn't any jello puddin'....... But that right there would have made bill Cosby bust a move . All in all ..... I like it. The last small knock was the service. Our server was super nice just not very present , and it wasn't super busy at all.

I can't really comment on the venue or service because I ordered my burger to go. But in the quick stop to pick up my order, I will say the joint is much smaller than I expected and the bartender (who I guess is the only one who handles the to-go order checkout) didn't seem very friendly or attentive despite his area being completely empty. Regardless, I happy to say I loved the burger. Although I don't have a blog dedicated to them the way I do mac n cheese, I think I know a thing or two about a good burger. I ordered the Stout Burger, which comes topped with blue cheese and gruyere (perfect for a cheese lover like me), Rosemary bacon, caramelized onions, horseradish cream and roasted tomatoes. Despite not normally liking the latter two, I left them on and actually loved the flavor they contributed. Obviously the bacon and cheeses were my favorite toppings though. I normally order my burgers medium. The guy on the phone said they cook all the burgers medium-rare, but that mine would continue to cook a bit as it sat waiting for me to pick it up instead of being served right off the grill for dine-in patrons. This suggestion was great, because my burger was cooked perfectly inside. Because I was already on my way home and don't live far away, my order didn't have time to get cold either. I definitely plan to go back to try another burger, as well as get the full experience. I like how the menu suggests what beers to pair with each burger. I do wish fries or a side came with. It really bugs me when gourmet burger joints get away with charging a high price AND making me pay for fries.

I've been a fan of their other location for a long time and have been waiting with baited breath for the SM version to open. When I finally visited a couple of months back, I was definitely not disappointed! I love the indoor/outdoor seating that gives you the shelter from the elements but allows you to enjoy those mild SM evenings by the beach. I had the six weeker burger, which comes wit brie, arugula, and fig jam. It was a hearty two-fisting kind of burger and though I was originally sad that it didn't come with a side of fries, I realized I didn't need any once I started eating. They do offer all sorts of sides you can buy, though, including sweet potato fries and onion rings, as well as arugula salad for those trying to be healthy. Just kind of a pet peeve of mine when a burger doesn't come with fries on the side, but I guess at these higher end burger places (Umami included), this is now the norm. I like how all of the burgers on the menu come with suggested beer pairings. As for the beer menu itself, it features a lot of different kinds of beers, from hoppy ales to delicate belgians. I don't know a ton about beers but the server was happy to make suggestions and even give us little samples. By now, the gastropub/craft beer combo is old hat in these parts, but Stout does what it does well and doesn't feel contrived. It's a great addition to this neighborhood and I'm sure my fellow locals agree!

What not to like? Solid burger+beer selection. Good service. Legit happy hour going on. Great place to watch the game.

I am a bit confused. This place has great reviews...I just don't see it. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere is very laid back - all positive points. Our server stated that all their burgers are done medium and that would be pinkish. That's fine with me. I eat steak medium all the time. My ground beef I would prefer cooked a bit more, but if that's how we do it here, let's see how it is..... Well, when my burger came out, it was red (you can see from the picture I posted) and literally dripping red all over the place. I tried to eat it, I really did. However it didn't taste good, it just tasted like raw meat. I did eat the whole roll with the fig jam and the goat cheese and spinach, and I must say they all blended very well together. I would not eat here again, however they did have a great beer selection. I love burgers, and it's not easy to find a good burger, but I can't remember ever getting a burger that I could not even eat 75% of, like was the case with this burger. If you enjoy raw bloody ground meat, then this is your place! Positives: Nice, relaxed & casual atmosphere. Great beer selection. Friendly staff Cons: Burgers not cooked enough to eat (at least for my taste)

Stout Santa Monica Rocks! It embodies everything that SAMO is all about, laid back atmosphere, friendly people and great food and drinks! Sitting at the bar is the way to go, The bartender Janell, is very knowledgeable about the beer and wine and will always let you sample. She makes you feel like a regular even on your first visit! California Beers, Wine and Gourmet Burgers one block from the ocean, you can't go wrong. Thanks Janell and thank you Stout, I'll be back and bring friends!

Best burger I've had on the westside, hands down. If you can make it 4:00 - 6:00 for happy hour, thats the best deal. Half price on all food, but drinks are still full price. Do yourself a favor and go with a friend. Get one order of fries and one order of onion rings to share. They're both delicious. If you're a fan of sweet potato fries, they have the best around. I'm sure all of the burgers are delicious, but I always get the SHU. Try it and you'll find out why. They also have a great selection of craft beers, with something for everyone. One thing to know about them is that you dont get to order a specific temperature for your burger. Its either pink or no pink. Even if you say no pink, its usually closer to medium anyway, so thats how I order. At the end of the day, just remember that this is a burger joint. You come here for a reason, and its not for a fine dining experience.

For a place that is a supposed contender for "The Best Burger in Los Angeles" it sure comes up short. All the toppings and trimmings of a gourmet burger are there-sautéed onions, artisan cheeses, rosemary bacon, and even fancy sauces like lemon basil aoli and chipotle ketchup and yes, my mouth is watering just thinking about their bacon. They even have a "no substitutions" rule (you can remove something and add another thing, but it'll cost ya) which is reminiscent of Fathers Office no-ketchup-because-we-create-the-most-perfectly-crafted-burgers-ever-rule. However, when you get right down to it the actual burger patty just isn't that great and has very little flavor. This place is decent. Good ambiance, nice selection of beers (and I appreciate the suggested beer pairing with burger), just not a destination spot.

Truffle burger was incredible!!! Beers are a bit pricey but it's understandable as you are close to the beach. Bartender was very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend.

This is a great place for people who like heavy beers like Stouts and Porters, as well as a wide variety of good food. This location is only a few blocks form 3rd Street Promenade and near plenty of parking garages. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, and even though it was busy when we arrived we only waited a couple minutes to be seated. Good vibe. I am an Amber/Red fan and there wasn't much for me but my boyfriend loves the big beers so he was good to go!

Amazing service and the best burgers in town! You can't beat their happy hour Monday-Friday from 4-6 when all the food on the menu is HALF OFF!!! Bartenders and waitstaff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the different kinds of beers. Just tell them what you usually drink and they will recommend the closest beer to that.

As a burger junky and connoisseur I was hoping this place would be right up there with umami burger. Good attempt, good selection of beers, burgers are a good blend of meat just not savory and mostly bland. Not helping the place that it's hard to find, you may walk past it a few times before you realize it's there. I have not tried the bread pudding so will have to update this post pudding.

Fun fact: Lobster used to be poor people food. People actually used to bury lobster shells in their yard so that their neighbors wouldn't know they were so poor that they had to eat LOBSTER. I'm starting to get the feeling burgers are the new lobster. There's no end to fancy burger places with names like STOUT or FATHER'S OFFICE or GENERIC SYMBOL OF PATRIARCHY. And they all offer pretty much the same thing, a $12 burger with some kind of bacon-related product, usually truffle oil and local cheese with a French name. Beers are always, if local, of some obscure brewing style created by monks or something. If import, they're crafted in small batches inside a single bucket in a single monastery in a single province of some vaguely Germanic country. I'm spending a lot of time on this stereotype, because this is what Stout is. It's an expensive, decent burger in an expensive, decent place with offerings of expensive, decent beers. Honestly, a burger is a slab of low-grade meat between sliced bread. There's only so many truffle products you can slap on top of it.

Super bummed to leave this review but customers (with 6 or more guests) beware. We were a party of 7. Super easy going. All ordered burgers and a couple of appetizers. When the waitress brought us our bill she informed us the gratuity was included - which typically would not bother us even though that usually happens with parties of 8 or more. What was complete BS was they charged a 22% tip on top of the tax (I have uploaded a picture of my receipt on yelp). When I mentioned something to the waitress she left and never came back. A guy came to the table and said "That's just how our computer does it." Well I told him his computer was set up wrong and he seemed completely irritated with me and asked what I wanted. I told him I am fine paying 20% but I want the additional $6.21 back that you over charged on my credit card. He came back, threw $7 on the table as if we were the bad guys and walked away. We were completely blown away. Terrible customer service and honestly 5 guys has better burgers at 1/2 the price.

SO GOOD. My favorite beginning to an evening is with burgers and brews, and boy does this place get the job done. I initially discovered this place after deciding to decline the 45 minute wait for the Misfit on a Saturday night, and I'm so glad I did. The burgers are amazing (go for the brunch burger, its soo good) GREAT beer selection to boot. This place has a great selection of Hefeweizen's and Wheat beers which I love. If your looking for a great place to take the bros or a very luck chick for some burgs and beers with a cool, laid-back atmosphere, look no further. ALSO- if any of the hostesses are reading this, call me ;)

YES. YES. YES. This place needs to branch out and take over! Could possibly have some the best burgers and best beers ever! Don't believe me, well continue reading the rest of the positive reviews and give it a try! that lemon basil aoli! Goombah or Bollywood, get a good beer to pair and ta-da! You're welcome!

Went with a small group of friends and the service was horrible. It was a busy night and we placed our names on the list and advised we will be at the bar having a drink while waiting for our table. After 40 minutes, the host gave all available tables to walk-in. We also ordered our meal but never gave us silverware. We could have used the table cloth to wipe our hands and mouths but unfortunately they don't use table cloths. Perhaps the owners and management should change their business model from a full service restaurant to self service. McDonald's and Burger King does it and their service is more consistent and much better than yours!

Don't often find 5 star places. This place ain't great ambiance..but IMHO it has two shining stars: the BEST burgers I have ever, ever bitten into...and a wonderful, incredibly delicious collection of beers. Not often you are in the middle of an interesting chat around the table...take a bite of ur food and instantly forget what everyone was talking about. The burgers are THAT GOOD. And the beers...yikes...this is NOT your father's/mother's) beer...and they rotate the selection and the wait-humans are wonderful...they listen to what you like, make great selections that wow you with new flavors. Also...great sidewalk river of humanity flows past. I'm NOT apologizing for 5 stars.

Gourmet burgers and beers to match! Sold! This place is awesome So happy it's open in Santa Monica. You can't go wrong with any of the burgers and that bread pudding for dessert is delicious. If you feel like a burger and want something more gourmet I suggest this place!

I have this burger karma where I have serendipitously lived within a mile proximity to what has been rated by both GQ magazine and Oprah Winfrey as the top burger restaurants in United States. My friends and family make fun of me because they think I moved to these places just to be by the best burgers in the country! One was in Hollywood, Florida and the other in Santa Fe New Mexico. So I definitely know my burgers! I actually pride myself in being somewhat of an American Burger Connoisseur. In addition to that, as a lifetime Platinum Starwood member I've traveled the globe and in each country I've always made it a point to try their version of the great American burger. Then I discover Stout Burger! I'm taking the time to write this review while in one hand I have my iPhone and the other hand I have the best burger I've ever experienced in my life! The bun is this warm freshly baked sweet bread that is hearty and light. The burger patty is delicious and perfectly seasoned and is accompanied by blue cheese, melted Gruyere cheese, Rosemary bacon, caramelized onion, cooked to absolute perfection! I also love the fact that they have over two dozen delicious craft draft beers to choose from. And Nathan the restaurant manager was like a Beer connoisseur in guiding me to select the perfect beverage to accompany my delicious meal. I really give props to the whole team of Staff because I know it takes a team mentality to bring the "A" game to the table. Stout Burgers and Beers has a really fun and friendly ambience and great food. The Staff are talented and understand how to relate and communicate to create an authentic exchange. And be assured I will be back and I will tell my friends and family that I am calling off the search, because I have found the very best burger in the USA!

hated the lady serving me. She was so rude I had to tell the guy in the front how rude she was. She never smiled. never have I come across someone who was so rude to me. Would it kill you to fake a smile? Instead of pushing my menu out of the way and throwing down my water next to me and giving me a stare. I was astonished. The guy in the front had to apologize. I'm very disappointed. Will never come back here unless I hear from management. Oh and the copper interior kills the cell service but that's not a huge deal just fyi. Way to go, bad service from a service driven industry. Good one lady!

I stopped in to Stout about a week ago to enjoy a mid-day meal with my friend. I love the lay-out of the place and the customer service was amazing. The staff was friendly, and there were TVs there which were very easily viewable from any seat, to catch my favorite sports channel! The environment is great with indoor outdoor seating located in very close proximity to 3rd street promenade. The food was amazing. The wait was a little long which is the reason for my 4 and not 5 star review, but it was worth the wait because it was amazing. I came at mid-day, so I'm hoping to go back again soon so I can write an update! 4 stars. Leyon

Let me say first that I would have given 5 Stars if they allowed me to make substitutions to my burger. I find it rather arrogant that some burger joints (Father's Office included) feel it necessary to tell me how I should eat my burger. But I digress... I ordered the "Stout Burger"...hold the horseradish...and I thought it was awesome! The fries (seasoned and sweet potato) were also very tasty. I thought the onion rings were average. Beer selection was good, but disappointed they didn't have Chimay in their stable of Belgiums. Wait wasn't too bad for a Friday night and we had a very large group (12). It was a 2 hour wait at Misfits, but we were seated at Stout in 20 mins. Service was very good. If you like burgers and good beer, you won't be disappointed.

One of the best burger joints in LA that is honestly to die for. With a lengthy selection and a great beer list, Stouts definitely presents a great burger experience. Most other burger joints only have a few or, like Umami and / or Plan Check + Bar has a nice selection, that are good but Stouts mainly / basically ONLY sells burgers. All of them are taste-y and honestly, "umami" (no pun intended here).

  • Leisha P.

Burgers and beer! They have a food beer selection. We went during happy hour before 6pm and got our burgers and sides for 1/2 off! The service was good and they didn't give us any issues with multiple cards on one check. This place is kind of small and can get crowded fast later in the evening.

    (4)
  • Laura F.

We had dinner here recently the service was absolutely terrible! Our server Brittany was extremely unfriendly as well as the manager. After an issue with our drink and meal we proceeded to speak to a manager and she stood there rolling her eyes, listening to the conversation and then proceeded to grab the check and run it before the manager could fix the problem. I understand that stout has a policy with there alcohol but they would rather ruin a customer experience then make it right. I will never go back and spend money here. Which is very unfortunate.

I really enjoyed my visit to Stout. We found our way in on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to grab some beers and watch the NFL games. We got a seat at the bar, which offered good viewing of the games. The selection of beers on tap is really good, and I was able to sample some local brews that I cannot get at home. The restaurant was open air to the street, and since the weather was gorgeous this was a plus. Much better than being stuck "inside" on such a nice day. We ended up eating the Goombah burger while drinking here (minus the ailoi because mayonnaise is disgusting, even when its dressed up with a fancier name), and it hit the spot. I would come back and eat the burgers here again when in the area. The tab was a little high at the end of the afternoon, but after drinking several good beers I didn't really notice that until later.

Made long trek down for the first time on my motorcycle to the beach. After going for my first hour run in a couple months along the coast I was looking for a nice place to grab a beer. Yelp to the rescue! Stout popped up! After cruising around for a sec. found a nice parking spot and got table a table for 1. The cutest waitress came over with her little nit cap thingy lol. Tried as many beer samples as I could and settled on the Troubadour Magma and Stout Burger with fries. The burger was awesome. Better then Umami imo. Would place it just under Father's Office though. Was so juicy and tasty. Along with the cool weather and people watching the only thing better would have been taking a nap right there :-) Service was great and will most certainly be back again!

I remember having my first Stout burger at a Coachella Estate party a few years back and remember it being friggin delicious. I'm not sure what happened but it was "meh" at this location. The burger was good, don't get me wrong, but nothing about it that jumped out at me. Beer selection is good but not so different from what you can get at many other restaurants nowadays.

Great burger, but minus one star because it was small and came on a tiny, sad plate. Thank God I also ordered seasoned fries, which were an unexpected and delicious version of the genre. But given how small my burger was, those fries should have come with it.

  • Susan D.

When I'm paying $12+ for a burger (sides are extra), I'd like to have more options than "pink or no pink", especially when "pink" means I risk getting a rare burger (out of four attempts, all four were either rare or med rare) and "no pink" came out dry on both occasions. That being said, I love the toppings on the Six Weeker (my husband found it too sweet, but I'm good with it) and will happily go there for a happy hour (all food half price!) any chance I get. Outside of happy hour though, if I'm in the mood for a burger I usually end up someplace that'll cook it to the temp I ask for.

*** Simple menu here: burgers, fries, beers & wine. *** Three types of burgers are either beef, chicken or veggie. I tried the B56 chicken burger w/ the chipotle mayo sauce. Hmm that was juicy, very tasty and properly filling ... 5-star. Not hungry enough to try the sweet potato or seasoned fries, so I opted for arugula salad. It was bland and lifeless... 2-star. Finished with an Old Rasputin. Good microbrew list ... 4-star. However space is basic, small, industrial, uninspired ... 3-star. *** Stout is a solid 3.5-star pitstop but it's not a destination. ***

Best burger EVER! Didn't think anything could top Five Guys but OMG - the SHU Burger is soooo good! They have the standard sides: french fries, onion rings etc. and they even have Ranch dressing (YUM!). I had wine with my burger, which probably wasn't the best choice. I just wasn't willing to be adventurous with the extensive craft beer menu they have (give me a Corona and I'm happy). Great spot - they have two huge flat-screens for watching sports, although when we were there they were playing a movie, which was kinda strange on a Saturday night. Good food and good company is what this place is for - and they do it well.

I'm always down for a new burger spot in LA because most of the time I'm underwhelmed by the burger selection. Not that there aren't good spots, but maybe there are just so many that you would think there would be more that are actually better. So with that comes Stout. Burgers are $11; fries are another few bucks, and they had a special homemade pretzel that was a whopping $10. I definitely would have gone for that pretzel, but $10 for it sounded a bit ridic. What I liked about this place is that they recommend certain beers based on whatever kind of burger you get. The burgers were quite good. And I say that toying with the idea of what adjective I wanted to use. I wouldn't say "great" because that sounds a little strong. "Good" sounds underwhelming, so I went with "quite good" aiming for something in between. Perhaps if the price wasn't as steep I wouldn't mind. $11 isn't awful, but it didn't blow my mind enough for it to be $11. The beers that go with it are mostly between $6-9. The fries were aight...ehh...good...whatever adjective you choose. I want to go back for the idea of this place, but probably sparingly...my bill with tax and tip was probably around ~$24ish. Not terrible, not cheap. Overall, this is a great place to get solid burgers, have a beer or two and just chill after a long week.

I don't understand how people find this place so mediocre when it really is amazing. I can see if you're a health nut or a foo foo eater that this is not the place for you. If you enjoy a great burger with some great sides made fresh then come here. The burgers are awesome and with a selection of a veggie burger and chicken burgers (my favorite with the BBQ sauce) it makes it that much better. I highly recommend starting with one of their fresh made pretzels if you have a group of people; of if you're really hungry! It tastes soooo good and the sauces they give make it that much better. Save room for dessert because the bread pudding is amazing!!

I wanted to give this particular Stout a review because I really enjoy this place. I know this location is fairly new, but it still holds its high standard (at least, my high standards) and can keep up with the Hollywood and Studio City locations. My sister and my friend went to this location recently just to get bread pudding. Overall I have NO problems with this location. The staff was friendly, the place is set-up mostly like the other Stout locations -- you can't mistake it's design and feel. Once again, BREAD PUDDING! Not as moist as the Hollywood and Studio City locations, but the flavor is 100% there! I'm sure it will improve as the place gathers more business. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER REVIEWS FOR STOUT. In conclusion, Stout continues to be my go to place for great food and a place to just chill out and relax.

Love sitting at the bar and having a burger! All their choices are great! I've had every burger on the menu! All beef burgers are cooked medium rare which is how a burger should always be cooked! For the non beef eater they have chicken and quinoa options which I've gad as well, also awesome! Outstanding draft beer selection and great service! I would give them a 5 but you can't modify anything and you have to pay for an extra side of sauce! And I fully understand this but boy would I love the option to build my own burger here with their selection of totally amazing ingredients!

It's simple: 1. Get the stout burger 2. Get the sweet potato fries 3. Get the skinny low and slow Take note: - I don't drink beer, but here you should (according to my friend) - Small, and outdoor seating - Dip those sweet potato fries into some of their BBQ sauce. Holy... yesss

Not the biggest fan of "gourmet" hamburgers, but this place makes a MEAN JOOSY BOIGA (pronounced BOY-GUH aka bourger aka burger) they make food and it was good. only 4 stars though because just in my opinion an $11 dollar burger should come with a little bit of FRYS atleast kick me two frenchy friesies bruhhhhhhh but twas good

Could not resist ordering the Shu burger. If I see something with jack pepper or chipotle mayo in it, I'm getting it. I also had seasoned fries and the bread pudding. All in all, I was very, very happy with my order! The Shu I ordered medium well (turns out they do either pink or no pink). I think I'll go for medium rare next time because I wanted it to be a little more tender. The bun was fluffy and buttery, and the sauce made the buns slide around a bit, so be prepared for that. The seasoned fries are nothing to write home about; they're just your typical fries seasoned with rosemary. Now the bread pudding. That is the best bread pudding I've ever had. Granted, I haven't had many bread puddings, but this one was certainly memorable. It takes about 15 minutes to make, so be aware of that if you're planning on ordering it. It comes in nice cubes with butterscotch and chocolate chips and vanilla ice cream. Delicious. I was so full after eating all that, but everything was so nice! Would definitely come again.

This is currently at the top of my list for burger places in the downtown Santa Monica area. The Six Weeker burger is soo friggen delicious. The fig jam in the burger adds a sweetness to the meat. The meat is a good sized portion and juicy, a little too juicy/greasy, I recommend they actually let the patti rest for a few seconds before putting it on the bun to clear the grill greasiness off the meat. They also serve non-alcoholic beverages. I got the Arnold Palmers and it came with free refills, which is nice, since a burger/fries/drink will cost you around $20. The service was great as well. My only complaints were letting the patti rest and I thought the fries were just okay. I will come back here again.

Absolutely spectacular! My fiancé and I ordered the imperialist and the Stout burger. Although they were really strict on their "no modifications " policy, it was totally worth letting them decide how to cook the burger and they both were absolutely phenomenal! We will be telling family and friends about this place!!!

GREAT BURGERS. GREAT BURGERS. Can't say enough good things. Going to ruin my diet knowing they are so close. Get a sample of one of the many beers. The first one I tasted sucked, but the 2nd was fantastic and I had several. We followed a favorite bartender from his previous bar & am now stoked to have found such good burgers. Yum

Over cooked over rated. The Happy hour pricing on FOOD for half off was the only saving grace. The staff was so "busy" and running around like crazy and there was not one in the place. So weird. I will grace my mouth with other eats next time I am in the area.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon, and sat outside the tiny restaurant. It's nice to walk in and see the workers smiling and happy to assist you. Guy at the door with his mustache (cutie) was very nice and welcomed us and let us choose our seats. It was pretty empty but then again it must have been after the lunch rush. Our server, (I can't remember her name) but pink hair, was very helpful. She knows her beers and burgers! We ordered the Stout and Goombah, oh man, they were juicy and delicious. They don't skip out on the sauces and ingredients in their burgers. They serve it with pink in the middle or well done. Next time I'll order well done, just my preference for a burger, I'd rather not see so much pink. We also ordered their sweet potato fries and seasoned fries, they're a must. We did t order any desert because we stuffed our faces but we will definitely be back and leave room for the desserts people are talking about. If you're craving a burger in the Santa Monica area, try this place out!

Not a huge menu choice, and the burgers aren't huge. Not the place to go to pig out, probably best to go if you're the burger connoisseur type;) beer list is hefty. I got the Goombah burger and it was REALLY yummy. Interesting taste, the lemon. However, I got... VEEERY sick afterwards. Like, rush-home sick. Bummer, probably won't go back.

First time here. Great service. Nice ocean view from outdoor table. Yummy yummy chicken burger. Yummy sweet potato fries. Would totally recommend. Even though mostly beer I drink wine and they had a good selection and waitress gave me good recommendation.

Wandering Santa Monica Sunday afternoon and took a shot. lunch was great. Lindsay was as charming as she could be. The stout burger was juicy and hit the spot. GF had the slow and low chicken burger and liked it. I'd definitely go back.

So- i can only review the bread pudding as we came here for dessert. It was amazing! I could have eaten two of them! Great service and delicious dessert!! Would highly recommend to anyone!

The Stout has it all- great burgers, delish beer and a great ambiance. We went for lunch and didn't have a problem getting a table at all. Our service was quick, attentive and friendly which always makes eating out good :) I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Santa Monica (or locals)- you won't be disappointed.

Hands down my favorite burgers and beer place. I am obsessed with their truffle shuffle burger --- my number one favorite burger! It's still very difficult for me to find a burger that could top this; not even umami. In addition to their burgers, their sweet potato fries are bomb!! One thing I have to say though because it really broke my heart PLEASE BRING BACK THE FRIED ZUCCHINI! I can't believe they don't make it anymore. I got extremely sad when I found this out and I believe other Stout frequents can agree with me on this. This place has a great location in Santa Monica and also gets a lot of traffic which is why I don't get why they built it so small. It's Difficult to find seating when you're in groups of three or more for dinner. I waited for an hour one time my two friends and I came here. I'm taking out a star because I miss the fried zucchini terribly and I truly believe that they need more seating

Horrible service. Went in early on new years eve, sat right away but left to wait 30 minutes for our beers. Food was good but not enough to make up for poor service. Thankfully only visiting the area but would not go again

Been in here a few times. Great beer selection, nice staff and really good bar type food. Stout burger is EXCELLENT, pretzel is a great app to share with all of their sauces. Seasoned fries are killer and enough to share with multiple people. Can get a cheap bottle of wine too, although there are better quality brands to sell for the same price range as the ones you have. Only suggestion, otherwise...great spot!

Have been here twice now and will keep returning. Burgers are so good and juicy. I have had the goombah and that was delicious as well as the morning burger which was perfect. Tried one of the chicken ones and actually liked it better than the beef. Haven't tried the big pretzel yet but the sides (fries and onion rings) are very good and not too greasy. The staff has always been incredibly friendly. Thumbs up!

No good as expected. The famous burger was not delicious, far not delicious. Bear didn't impress me as well. I compare to Library ale house that is much better to my mind. In other words, this place is completely overrated.

LOVE this place!!! The bartender was super friendly and kept offering as many beer samples as Id like...and the beer you ask?? AMAZING! They had a couple off menu beers that were some of the best Ive ever tried. I cant remember the name of the pumpkin seasonal one they have right now BUT the reasoned be damned by stone..OMG *drool and the tater ridge brewers alliance...heaven! The food looked bomb too..love the open airiness of this place as well!

Outstanding. Stout is a great burger and beer place to take a date, friends, or family. The stout burger is out of this world and every beer I've tried is pleasant. Also get a side of seasoned fries. Boom.

Burgers great, could use a touch more salt. The real star is the sweet potato fires; every one crisp on outside and melt in your mouth. Best anywhere. Well done!

Went to the one in Hollywood, turns out there's a secret menu with a freaking brie truffle burger!!! Heavenly!!! Most of the burgers are delicious!!! Also, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST ORDER THE BREAD PUDDING!!!!! Trust me on this one, your tummy will be happy. ;)

Decided to try this spot out on a rainy Saturday afternoon and wasn't disappointed. What a killer burger. I had the Stout burger and my GF had the 6 weeker and both were legit. Kinda puts Fathers Office to shame in my opinion. Friendly wait staff and some good beers on tap as well. Wish they would add a brunch happy hour.

Very little to say about Stout, looks like a cool place from the outside, but one you look at the menu and see Stout on tap, you'll never want to go anywhere else. Great burgers and sweet potato frys.

Its status as a rising star seemed to precede its arrival in Santa Monica. And, after months of watching the space of a Thai restaurant tear down, rebuild and refurbish, locals finally found it open. We've stopped by several times since, but never to eat. A loft-like and airy but narrow space, built to resemble the insides of a beer keg, this gastropub looks more beer than food. The burgers and fries coming out of the kitchen look great, but it's been a nightcap or pre-dinner kind of a watering hole for us. The drink list is solid. There's the Allagash Curieux and Allagash White, the 90 Min IPA from Dogfish Head and North Coast's Old Rasputin. They label as "specialty" beers the Heirloom Pumpkin Barleywine and Deschutes' Jubelale, although I find them more seasonal than specialty. An ale from a brewery like Craftsman is quite limited and more local than most - ergo, special - no? I'm not trying to nitpick; it's just...they might be trying too hard. Stout is great for its convenience (they have it down with the location). If I'm expecting a limited food menu (i.e. the burger, fries, or a hot dog), I'm still happier at FO and Wurstkuche, where the selections are more dependably unique.

I Went their Last night burgers where horrible and very basic i tasted a better frozen burger in school as a kid. Service was bad and was slow but still.By the way I had the shu burger and bread pudding was average It look like french bread with a egg mixer then through into the oven. Went to the one in San Monica maybe the others are good but I want try them.

I love stout. Yeah, its a chain, but they do things pretty right here. My favorite burger so far is the Jack cheese chipotle burger thingy or whatever its called. Fries are pretty good here too. I am a huge dessert person also, so if you are too you have to try the bread pudding. It is freaking AMAYZING. Its chocolate chip but also they put some extra chips of butterscotch in there too and wow is it just mouth watering. I think I may have to get one after I'm done typing this review...

I got a burger on a bed of spinach. Sooo good! I'm sure a regular burger on bun is also as good, but they let you switch with no extra charge. The fries (both potato and sweet potato) are really tasty as well. I've only been for lunch, but it looks like it could also be a chill dinner/pregame drink spot as well. A little small, but I prefer Stout over some of the other burger shops on SM.

Fantastic burgers, great selection of beer, by that I mean no crap light beer at all. IPA, stouts and great Lagers. Bartenders know how to pour. A go to place every time I'm in the area. Vibe, music and TV if ya want it.

The bf and I recently had dinner here last week. Here are my findings: 1) The Stout burger is solid. It's not the best I've had, but it's different. It was cooked perfect and seasoned beautifully. The horseradish cream puts a very unique twist to the otherwise ordinary burger! The Morning After is also pretty tasty. Put a fried egg on my burger any day and I'm a happy lady! Yay to the burgers! 2) The restaurant features a very limited menu. It's pretty much just burgers, beer, and fries and not much else. Yes, the restaurant is "Stout Burgers and Beers", so it makes sense. But it would've been nice to have a few more options, esp if only one party is craving a burger. 3) As of 10/21/13, there is no happy hour menu. What?? Overall, I was satisfied with Stout Burger, but I wasn't impressed by it. The atmosphere on that Friday night was rather subdued, the decor was very minimalist and bare, and the service was nothing to write home about. With such a stiff competition in the surrounding area, Stout needs to bring A game. They need to bring that WOW factor, if they want to survive. A-Ok in my books.

  • Louis Z.

They offer a vast selection of draft beers. There really is something for everyone. If you do not like beer, they do offer a tiny selection of wine. The majority of beverages are under $10 each. Happy Hour (Monday - Friday) 3pm - 5pm. $4 draft beers. The food selection in mostly burgers. If you do not like burgers then you should probably go elsewhere. The location is really small and fills up quick. I wouldn't come here with more than 6 people. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back.

It's was my first time here. Great burger and really good fries-I got the Goombah 'no pink' with a side of fries with extra lemon basil aioli. AMAZING! The burger was basically medium well perfectly cooked juicy with shoestring fries on the side. The aioli sauce really complimented my burger and the fries and the bill was a reasonable 16 bucks. Looking forward to coming to this place again.

Amazing burgers, fries, and beers! Each burger is absolutely delicious, fries are great, and their tap list is always changing. Great for craft beer! Minus one star for being pricey.

Been here a few times and finally decided to write a review because it doesn't get much better than this. Arrived Sunday mid day lunch and the restaurant was full so we decided to have a beer at the bar while we waited for our seats. Our bartender (Ted) was very knowledgeable about the beer and made us feel like we've been coming here for years. Shortly after finishing our first beer we got sat at a table and the service was just as good as the bar. Very friendly, warm and welcoming. Pros: Burgers are Delicious! Get the giant pretzel as a starter, its on the secret menu! Best beer selection on the west side. Staff is knowledgable and friendly. Ocean View!!! Cons: Not big enough! :) ps. They don't have high chairs or a kids menu. As a father of three I don't have a problem with this. It's nice to go to a place every once in a while without kids screaming and running around the restaurant.

Fantastic burger n fries! Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Recommended a great burger - Stout burger& perfect beer to go along with it. Seasoned fries were amazing- mild seasoning that didn't detract from that great fries taste. Mainly tyme, which was refreshingly original. Definitely coming back. Kids loved it. Thanks!

Great atmosphere and beer selection on tap. The burgers were creative and enjoyed the rosemary seasoning on the fries. They could have been a bit crisper though. Despite the high review would still put Father's Office and Plan Check ahead. Still, will come back here especially for the view and ease of seating!

We walked in on a saturday evening and ate at the bar. Tried the goombah burger which was yum but i really want to try the morning after burger. loved how the fries had tons of dried oregano as part of the seasoning. also really enjoyed the arugula salad. Really liked the beer choices....didnt seem to be the typical craft beers on tap so was kinda nice to try different beers. This is def going to be a place we'll go back to as a staple chill evening out.

I work in the afternoon/evening in Santa Monica, but live in Hollywood. So when I get off work around midnight and I'm in the mood for a good burger, we usually find ourselves at the Stout location in Hollywood, which is less than a mile from my apartment. However, on the weekends that area gets really congested and parking is a hassle. So we were excited when the Stout in Santa Monica finally opened. I've been there three times so far, always after 10pm, and it's been a 5 star experience all three times. Even though the place was mostly empty each time, the bartender and host were accommodating and friendly. The food is just as good as the Hollywood location, and the craft beer list is what sets it apart from other burger joints. Not to mention the sweet potato fries with the chutney dipping sauce. The burgers have come out perfectly medium rare every time, and even though I haven't tried the bread pudding during any of my dozen or so visits to Stout Hollywood and Stout Santa Monica, I might have to next time. Apparently I'm missing out on something amazing. Stout is home to the best burgers I've had in LA, and is my favorite place to grab a late-night dinner.

This place is outstanding. Their burgers are delicious, and even better protein style on fresh arugula. The veggie burgers are the best veggie burgers I have ever had and the sweet potato fries are a must!

Stout was recommended to me by a co-worker. I had the traditional Stout burger. The burger had a good contrast between Blue Cheese and Horseradish. There was just enough of both without becoming overbearing. The bacon was nice but the artisan tomato got lost in the crowd. I love a good craft beer. They have a wide selection and if you are interested in pales and Belgians they got you covered. That being said, I don't understand 15 dollars for a beer. The service was great. I sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and professional. I went at lunch. The place was not crowded. The atmosphere was attempting a tavern environment, but it is hard to do a warm, cozy, and dark eatery when the ocean is visible from most of the seats. All in all, I liked it. I recommend it. I will come back to eat through more of the menu. The cost was 12 bucks, which I consider to be about par for a place like this.

Small space, cool atmostphere, great location, good beer selection. They don't let you make any substitutions on your burger which is tough for people with dietary needs and restrictions. I don't eat red meat and there was only one chicken burger option and it had other foods I couldn't eat on it so I had to have it pretty plain since I couldn't pick my own toppings. If you're not picky, this place is great.

I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of the restaurant. I have heard SO many good things about their other locations, so I was excited to finally try it last night. Service: Great. Jannell, our waitress, was very knowledgeable about the beer selections and what would best compliment our meals. Service was fast and friendly. Burgers: I LOVE that you cannot make substitutions. You can ask for certain burgers to come without an item on it, but cannot add to it. The meat was a very good quality and smelled very much like a steak on my plate. I also like that they serve them medium to medium rare AND they have a 'protein style' option. I had the Six Weeker and my boyfriend the Stout Burger. Each burger was delicious, however, I must admit that I was quite disappointed in the size. I cannot imagine that it even weighed in at a quarter pound. In order to counterbalance all of the other ingredients (caramelized onions, brie and fig jam require a good amount of beef or it's overly sweet) there needs to be more beef. The burgers were piddly. Delicious, but far too tiny, especially considering they don't come with a side (though I wouldn't expect that at a reasonable $11). Sides: We had the onion rings, which were juicy and delicious. The coating was light and did not fall off of the onion AND the size of the side was massive (probably could have fed 3-4 people). Dessert: Bread pudding. Nom. It seemed to be a rather slow night as few people were there, though the patrons at the bar were having a fun chat with the bartender, who seemed really nice. DOWNSIDE: Small burgers. Teenie, little, burgers. Also, both me and my boyfriend are having some serious gastrointestinal issues today and this is the only meal we shared yesterday. So....there's that. Overall, the place is clean, the staff seems competent and sweet, the food tastes good, but still leaves you wanting a bit more. (Where's the BEEF?). And then, there are the stomach problems..... We may be back again, we may not.

The burgers are awesome! The seasoned fries with thyme and oregano equally awesome! Location: 10! Right in the mix of everything in SM. Burger: 9 One of the best I've had (all grass fed beef ground in house daily). Service: 9. Really nice servers who knew their stuff. Prices: High. Even for great burgers a tad high. We spent $50 on 2 burgers, one fry order to share, 1 beer and 1 glass of red. Price is the only reason for a 4 over a 5 star. Yumm!

Seating: Great! Tried this place for the first time last night around 7:00pm. It's a small, rustic looking restaurant with a counter, a small dining room and some covered patio seating. The hosts up front were friendly and greeted us right away, but given the time and the day of the week it was obviously busy. We found some seats at the counter (where they have a ton of draft beers) right away as there was only one patron currently seated there. Food: Just okay (vegetarian) I ordered the Cali Fresh veggie burger per the bartender's recommendation and asked for light sauce. The food came out promptly but there was no sauce in the burger. Later on, they gave me a side of thousand island. The wheat patty tasted okay, nothing extraordinary. The quinoa/black bean veggie patty was a little dry and the combination of flavors and ingredients in the burger was not impressive. I've had better veggie burgers elsewhere. The sweet potato fries (which you order as a side since all burgers are a la carte) were great! Decent portion and nice crispy cuts of sweet potato, probably my favorite part of the meal. Service/Conclusion: Disappointing :( Despite the bar being empty initially, the bartender seemed... busy? I wasn't expecting him to become my best friend but it definitely took a little while to get menus from him and when I asked him for recommendations he simply read the name of a menu item without explaining why he liked it. My food came out wrong and I also had to wait a while for my water to get refilled. It took us 3-4 tries to get a check - awkward since we were sitting right in front of him. I am a server, so I understand what it's like to have to multitask but my experience was a little off. The vibes we got from the bartender were odd, like he felt he was doing us a favor by doing there so obviously I didn't tip my usual 20%+. My boyfriend said he had been there 2-3 times before and got great service and great food, so maybe this was just a fluke. I personally wouldn't choose to come back but a lot of people seem to like this place so I might consider giving it another try. TLDR; Small restaurant with lots of beer, mediocre veggie burger, disappointing service.

The bread pudding is delicious, but don't bother ordering it to go. It took more than 25 minutes to bring it out and it was much smaller than when we have ordered it in the restaurant.

The burger was great. The chicken sandwich was FANTASTIC. The server was very helpful in suggesting beers to pair with my specific meal. The whole dining experience was awesome. Maybe the only negative was the fries - not all that great... haha but i'm nitpicking anyway. Go there

Where were all those great pubs when I was younger? Ah, probably just as well, since I wouldn't have been able to afford them anyway. Which reminds me -- how DO all these young people afford these places????? Stout is a small place near the beach. We got there just in time because it filled up completely after we got there. It's a young crowd (okay, I give up. WHERE are the other people in their fifties????), and the staff was EXCEPTIONALLY nice. I had the Stout burger, and Pat had the Truffle burger. We're getting an embarrassment of burger riches in L.A., and these are up there on the great burger list. It's almost becoming a point of entry for this kind of place -- if you don't have it you won't last long. The fries were a standout good -- crispy, with a definite rosemary taste. Pat's not big on fries usually, but he finished them up. Good selection of beers, and I think the only problem with this place is the same problem a lot of these places have -- its size. You may have trouble getting in on the weekends. Also, Santa Monica is getting tough to drive to from Culver City, and to find a parking space. Things'll be better when the train goes out there, though. But how about coming to Culver City!!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely come back here again.

I haven't been to the one in Hollywood, so I don't know how this new location compares. It's small, but comfortable. Staff was very nice and helpful when my group had questions. Great burgers. I had the Goomba and my wife had the Truffle burger. Both were fantastic. I'd put them up there with Umami. The others is our group had the Morning After. They loved it. The seasond fries, cheesy fries, and onion rings were also very good. The beer selection is vast and varied. Now I have to try the one in Hollywood, which I know has zucchini fries and is open till 4am (Santa Monica until 2am, I think our server told us, and they don't have Happy Hour... yet).

Had a burger here on Sat 9/28. Amazing burgers like you've never imagined. Layers of flavor. What they do is put flavor in every ingredient, meat, bun, onions, then add flavors most places don't even put on a burger. Gret atmosphere, open seating to the street. It was nice to see people walking by. Beautiful waiteresses who have a great wit. Definetely coming back with friends.

Wonderful. Beer was selection was ridiculous, in a good way. Onion rings were perfection, crisp, beer battered, flavourful. Burger was near perfect. I will say however, though they make it very clear, their meat is MEDIUM-HIGH RARE. I receiver a more medium rare one. Every other aspect was wonderfully crafted. Chose the 'morning after burger' dizzyingly flavourful. Highly recommend. Just make sure you are OK with a more under done burger, or be sure to ask for a more medium one.

Monday afternoon, day off of work.. family in tow. 4 adults, 2 children (4 year old and 5 month old) HORRIBLE SERVICE. Was told by a friend this was by far the best place to enjoy a great burger by the beach.. WRONG!!!!! This is the best place to have the host and waitress make you feel inadequate and uncomfortable. I get it, some places aren't kid friendly.. but when we asked for a high chair the waitress very RUDELY commented not once, not twice, but three times "NO, No. No.. we don't have high chairs" with a look on her face that basically said we were not welcomed there. We asked if we can take the stroller inside (it was about 2:30 so lunch was over and there were only 2 other tables being occupied) The host said we would have to fold it up. Ok, I get it these young employees do not have children, so they know nothing about how a 5 month old needs to be seated. Finally after me pointing out that there is plenty of room for the stroller he agreed to let us bring it in. Now we are seated and ask for a childrens menu.. again the girl grimaced and said "oh no, we don't have those" , she walked to the bar where the host was and I can clearly tell they are looking towards us and commenting to each other about us. AWKWARD!! At this point I decided I had enough, we all got up and walked out. We gladly went to another restaurant and spent over $200.00 on lunch. Maybe to Stout it is worth losing customers that have children, but I can't imagine for much longer. Sorry I can't comment on the food and I know I never will.

Food was excellent. I recommend the morning after burger. Sweet potato fries also were tasty. Service is good. It's a bit crowded and you will have to wait to get a table. There were several party's waiting for tables and I noticed that there were a few tables that had people just sitting at with checks on the table that already had been paid. I know I don't like to be rushed out of a restaurant , but if a party is siting at a table and has finished there meal and payed it's definitely time to go when you have a line outside. The servers can expedite people out in a polite way so the people waiting can get a table . Otherwise I had a great experience here and would recommend the place . They are very generous about letting you sample the wide variety of beverages.

Incredible burgers and a great staff. Stout was recommended by a friend who lives in the area. I was immediately unimpressed by the fancy ingredients the burgers were made with, as I am a pretty well known picky eater. I was not looking forward to my burger at all and was already planning a follow on meal somewhere else. I ordered the SHU burger and I could not believe how great it turned out. One of the best burgers I have ever had hands down.

For months I've been hearing great things about Stout but never had the opportunity to go until recently. I was excited when the Santa Monica location opened and it lived up to the expectations. I like the simplicity of the menu and particularly like the idea of pairing the right kind of beer with the burger you choose. I got the Stout burger with an IPA and they did not disappoint. Sweet potato fries were awesome as well. The highlight came after the burger. We were going to get the warm brownie sundae but our server recommended the bread pudding since that's made in-house. GET THE BREAD PUDDING. Honestly one of the best desserts I've had in recent memory. Overall awesome dining experience and the atmosphere is very laid back. Great burgers, beer and BREAD PUDDING YUMMMM.

The food was great and our waitress had good knowledge/tips about the beers. I had a hamburger with bacon and an egg on it! Sinful! The service was spot on and the bathroom was clean. I really don't have any complaints. It's pretty pricy for what you get and all the sides (french fries) have to be ordered separately so I'm knocking them down a star.

Our negative review was met with a gracious response with an offer of a meal to give Stout another chance. The manager, Ted Cash, asked that we allow them to provide us with a much better dining experience. We arrived at Stout and Mr Cash was very nice, with the explanation that their supplier at times do deliver French fries with a few dark spots. We ordered hamburgers with fries and again there were dark spots and they tasted moldy! I sent the moldy fries back and Mr Cash reiterated his prior explanation. I don't think he tasted them to find out if they indeed tasted moldy. My query is, with so much competition in the food supplier industry, couldn't one be found that does not have "a few dark spots" on their fries? The burgers are very good but the fries are not acceptable

It was ok. I had the basic stout burger. The bun was really sweet, like a sweet roll. Kind of took away the pleasure of eating a savory burger. The burger had a lot of sweetness to it in fact. Had sweet marinated tomatoes. The carmelized onion tasted sweet. I had to take it all off. Just not what I expected. The atmosohere was nice. Not too busy. Close to the ocean. Getting bread pudding to go. Hope that's good.

LOVE this place!! Have been twice and both times have been fantastic. A friend and I came last weekend which just so happened to be SantaCon in Santa Monica. Even though the place was packed to the gills, service was excellent. Servers are well educated on the beer menu and helped me find the perfect beverage to accompany my burger. Their fries and onion rings are amazing as well. Will definitely be back!

The manager at this place is ridiculous. We had a baby who is super picky and only eats bread at restaurants, and asked for an extra bun. One of our other burgers we got "skinny style" so it came without a bun and comes on a "salad". Apparently it was not ok to put a bun on a plate for the 3 year old, because that would be like getting a free (4$) salad. (after our waitress said it should be ok). So we said ok, we will just get the bun and not have the burger skinny style with the salad. Our burger comes out, skinny style, on the "salad" (which was approximately 4 pieces of tiny lettuce). Also you can not make any changes (but fortunately they are lenient enough to allow you to take things off yourself once you get your burger---that is allowed and was explicitly explained by the waitress...). Also they won't take your order as "rare, medium or well done". The response was "uh...pink or no pink". Our waitress was very nice but the manager seemed like a cheap jerk I also found it ridiculous to that was given permission to remove something on my burger myself! So pretentious. The girl's uniform shirts are also see through, for no reason. Felt bad for the girls working there. Food average per usual Stout

I stumbled upon this place last night while looking for another restaurant that is apparently closed. Anyway... It's only been open for a month but you can tell that what's happening here is expert. Bartenders served us quickly and knew their stuff which even for this area is a nice find. Bert selection is about 15-20 and is a nice array. It's not for the Bud Light crowd but if you're in here - you've already selected yourself away from this place already. And there is no liquor here. Beer and wine only. Get your Martinis somewhere else. Yes the burgers are good. Yes it's $11 for just a burger. But don't stop at the burger. Get the bread pudding. Oh please order the bread pudding with a nice stout and be transported to a new realm. I will definitely return if I'm back in this area.

Have tried the stout burger, the goombah and the morning after burgers. Very complex flavors and very juicy to create delicious burgers. All have been great so far and there's an excellent beer selection too. My friend is picky and they always help him to pair his burger and beer and will let him have a little beer sample before getting a whole one, especially at the bar. I enjoy the indoor/outdoor setting too and how they usually keep it opened it. Took awhile to open this location and hope they keep doing great and stay a long time!

God,when they brought my lunch order, I just wanted to pick up the Stout burger with both hands and devour it. Best burger I've had in a long, long time. Maybe ever. Seasoned fries and onion rings were delish. You could taste the beer in the onion ring batter! Yummy goodness.

Fancy burgers right off third street promenade. Burgers are very similar to Zin burger. Ordered the house burger and was not disappointed. Very good beer selection. Had Stone drink by on tab which was a huge plus.

Great place to get a burger and beer, possibly the best. Plenty of options in both categories, sure to satisfy anyone who isn't a vegetarian or abstains from alcohol. Actually, scratch that, I remember a veggie burger on the menu. I had the stout burger (classic blue cheese burger), the shu (pepper jack and a chipotle sauce), and a hopulent IPA. The burgers are cooked to perfection, had to savor every bite. Can't wait to come back for happy hour (half off) as I work down the street. This location is smaller than their WeHo one, but I dined on a Sunday evening and didn't have to wait for my group of 5 to get a table. Go to stout, you deserve it!

This is a nice little bar. The interior is good. Bar food is served, and the pretzel I ordered was good. There is table seating and a semi-circle bar with some TVs. Service is good.

We were looking for a place to sit and have a cold beer outside while walking around near the Santa Monica Pier. We were seated right away and received excellent service. Lots of awesome craft beers on tap and the burgers are INCREDIBLE. I got the stout burger and Mama's pilsner ale....so so great. Be sure to get the bread pudding (big enough to share). Takes a little while but totally worth it.

The burgers and the beer selection are amazing, as well as the atmosphere. I could not in good conscience give this establishment 5 stars due to bad service. The waitress, Codie, neglected to take our food order, and 40 min after serving our beverages, indicated to us that our burgers were ready, burgers we never had the chance to order mind you. On top of that, when we received the bill, there were several beers that were added to our tab, none of which were ours. There is no excuse for such gross incompetence. If I return to this establishment and find the same level of poor service, I will personally convey my disgust to management.

This place is delicious. I had the truffle mushroom burger and it was fantastic. Not too crazy huge, very juicy, great bun. I got it with no cheese but it comes with brie. I wanted to add an egg but they do not allow any substitutions. Its fine though because it was magical. I will be back. $11 for the burger and you can sit on the patio and peoplewatch. Good times.

Great spot with a solid beer list (including sours!). I didn't have the food, just a pre-dinner beer but the burgers looked awesome. Next time fo' sho'. Also helps that the staff is really nice and I sat and chatted with the manager for a while. Decent number of screens and they had the Sunday night football game on. I'll be back!

Burgers are pretty good - we had the Stout burger and truffle burger and both were tasty, but rare, even for me that likes beef bloody. The toppings were interesting/unique and the bun was spongy. The fries were unremarkable - we ordered the fries topped mozzarella and they were limp and needed to be crisper. Save your calories for beer and burgers. The beer selection was respectable and reasonably priced. Service was attentive. Will I go out of my way to come back? Probably not, but if I'm in the area, I'll swing by and skip the fries.

Stout burger is the BEST! The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable with their constantly rotating selection of beers. The Cali Fresh burger is my favorite burger. Being a vegetarian it's really hard to find a good filling and TASTY vegetarian burger. The patty is made from quinoa and garbanzo beans which gives me my complete protien. The sides are all great. Just tried their kale quinoa salad tonight which was really good. The sweet potatoe fries go great with the burger. One of my all time favorite vegetarian meals and I heard their beef burgers and chicken burgers are amazing too. My girlfriend loves the Low and Slow burger. It's a barbecue chicken burger with roasted Chiles aged cheddar and fried onions. She actually craves this burger. I would definitely recommend this place to any meat eater or vegetarian, and it's right by the beach! How can you beat that!

Really a big fan of their Cahuenga location, so I was looking forward to this Santa Monica place opening up. I work close by so I went by after work with a few friends. We walked in, and were informed that they have no happy hour at this new location. We sat down anyway and looked at the menu. Two minutes later, we got back up and went elsewhere. The joint was empty and with no happy hour, just plain overpriced. They serve burgers and beer; it's not the four seasons. This location apparently doesn't want any money from the hard-working local set, just the jet set dough. Seriously they should start accepting EUR. Happy hours keep the locals happy. We could be their bread and butter but they're content to piss it away. Have fun keeping a serving staff on only tourist tips! I hate businesses who cater only to either the rich or the unaware.

This place has the best happy hour specials! I have to drive 40 miles to get here but it's worth it. They have the best burgers, fries, and sauces that I've ever had, especially for the price. If it wasn't so far, I'd probably eat here everyday.

  • Sevag D.

Great burger, great fries, overly friendly service in an awesome location. The place is a bit smaller than I expected but it has the typical Santa Monica feel with the tables and chairs right off the sidewalk on Santa Monica Blvd near Ocean. About 20 beers on tap with 2 TVs behind their bar showing the game. The ranch was OK, the chile something sauce was better. I had the Shu burger, which had pepper jack and garlic aioli in it, and a couple lager beers which were good. The meat is very high quality and cooked perfectly with red in the middle. I'm getting hungry again just writing this review. I hadn't heard of most of the beers on their menu. I will definitely be back again to try more beers and another type of burger.

Loved the burgers. Stout burger by far was my favorite and incredibly delicious. Great atmosphere and the wait staff was on point with availability, yet they don't hover. Also loved the fact that you can take what you want off of their creative burgers, but there are no substitutions and no add ons. Makes the menu selection so much easier.

    (5)
  • Lauren S.

First off this is a no substitution restaurant. If you have a problem with that, don't come. Simply by talking to your server you'd understand that you are in fact allowed to remove items from your burger you just can't add items. And "protein style" is your burger without a bun, and on a small bed of greens. Regardless of this rule the burgers here are awesome. The default in ordering a burger is medium rare (very pink) which in my opinion is how they should be served. The Six Weeker, the Morning After, and the Low and Slow are my favorites. And it's ridiculously simple, but I love the Caesar. Also both the brownie sundae and bread pudding are awesome. Extremely filling and easy to share with at least 3 people. Even though they don't serve hard liquor, the beers here are great with a good variety at all times. And if you're not sure what you like, don't be afraid to ask for advice and tasters. Everyone that works here is extremely friendly and laid back. My kinda atmosphere, which is why I'm probably referred to as "a regular" here.

Stout (finally open!) is a great addition to the area! It's a small space, so I imagine that it gets crowded, but when we showed up at 5pm on a Sat there was plenty of space. We sidled up to the bar and the bartender happily changed the channel on the tv for us so that we could watch our football game. He was friendly and the space was accommodating, first good sign. Beer list is pretty impressive, with a few recognizable favorites along with some interesting craft brews we didn't know. The glasses are small for the price, but the beers are strong and tasty. Three of us got burgers and shared one sweet po and one regular fries. I ate the Six Weeker and the two guys had the Stout burger. Three happy campers. Tasty, juicy burgers, perfect combos of spicy and sweet according to your preference. I really like that they suggest categories of beer to accompany the particular burgers. Helpful! Re: comments below that it is too pricey -- yes, the beers are a bit expensive, food average. Nothing outrageous though, and the quality is high. Rent is expensive in this part of town, the space is small, the beer selection and burger menu stand out. Worth a visit if you like sampling tasty new beers and enjoy a good (greasy) burger and fries!

Delicious burgers lots of beer options, awesome location. The staff will walk you through all the options. Cool addition to Santa Monica. Can't wait to try the rest of the burgers. My bartender was named Wade, he was super cool, helped me pick a good beer to eat with the yummy shu burger. Will be back!

3 stars (A-OK according to Yelp) plus another half for good measure. Love the vibe! Such a great space and we were lucky to get the little semi circle booth for two last night. The burgers were very good. I had the one with brie, fig jam and arugula and my boyfriend had the goombah. Loved the buns and both were cooked perfectly. The onion rings were crispy and tasty so no complaints there. For me, the burgers on the menu have a little too much going on. So it would be great if there was an option that mirrors a classic American style (onions, ketchup, mustard, cheese and pickles). The reason for three stars instead of more is because I still like the food at Burger Lounge better....and it's less expensive. Stout is a restaurant not a fast food joint like BL, so I completely understand why it costs more. It's just that when I'm spending my calories on a burger, my fave is my fave and for once in my life, I prefer the less expensive one!

The best burger in LA. Look no further. The beer selection is also superb. The only place that could take their place is, Wurstkuche (sausages) on Lincoln.

Burgers are cooked to perfection. Stout and Shu are top notch. Do tell the wait staff if you want your burgers a little bit more done as burgers are cooked more on the rare side. Great place to watch a game and catch up with friends. Service was super friendly, but waitress had trouble understanding 'on the side' does not mean 'do without'.......... Bread pudding was massive and good! Def will be back.

Pretty tasty but Stout is another Fascist Burger place. They know best and so you can't add any ingredients you can only subtract. Fine, the chef knows more than I do, except I'm ordering a BURGER not a fixed menu at a three star Michelin restaurant. Overall it's a fine place but the burger was overcooked, the seasoned fries were overly seasoned and Umami is not too far away. Keeping those things in mind I won't go running back but I will try again. On a positive note, the sweet potato fries were good.

I think Stout was good. I have to admit I am not a huge burger fan, but I got the Chicken burger which was not dry to my surprise. The sweet potato fries were pretty tasty too. Not the best burger place in Santa Monica, but if I want a chicken burger this is where I will go. PS. the beer selection was pretty stand out too.

Of all the new burger places in Santa Monica (Pono, Burger Lounge, Shaka Shack) this one is by far the best. I ordered the Stout Burger with out blue cheese. The burger is a good size but feels light and fluffy, much like the bun. My friend ordered the Goombah which I had a small bite and was very good. I'm not sure if the lemon aioli is for me though. The fries are skinny and good, well seasoned with herbs (parsley?). The onion rings are excellent. I ordered a side of Thousand Island which I thought they got wrong so they brought me another one which I was assured was Thousand Island. It tasted the same, not sweet, more like a chipotle sauce that went awry. I can't wait to go back and try their other burgers and I was directed to the chicken sandwiches, too. All of the servers were really nice, but the place seemed over staffed when I was there. I guess I'd rather too much service rather than too little.

Stumbled in here on a Friday afternoon with a big appetite. The menu was not huge but very interning burgers, we got the chicken burger, the morning after burger, and raspberry beer - all were phenomenal. They do not allow substitutions or additions witch isn't ideal. Also, we unknowingly got there 10 mins before happy hour (4-6) where everything on the menu is half off. Overall, the food, service, beer, location, and patio were all great!

A friend and I came here last night around 5 and there was hardly anybody in there and a billion people working. Just the way I like it. We originally picked the place because we thought they had the Modern Times Black House beer, but they ended up not having it. We still weren't disappointed. Our server, Ellie, was super nice and helpful. I couldn't figure out what to drink so she helped me out and let me taste some. Ended up getting a Silly Noel (not on the menu) and it was delicious. Went well with my burger which was the Goombah. It was dripping before I even took a bite. So juicy. So good. My friend got the Imperialist which I also took a bite of and that was yummy as well. The part that I loved was the sweet potato fries. Hands down the best I've ever had. We needed to share with the people we were sitting next to because we thought they were so good! They ended up getting some of their own too. The experience started out kinda disappointing, but it changed quickly short after. Highly recommend this place and will visit again when I come back to Santa Monica :)

Stout has a real nice vibe, great location, indoor and outdoor seating, delicious burgers, fantastic beer menu. It's a cool place. There was a Lagunitas tap-takeover on the night we were there - about 5 beers from Lagunitas, some free glassware, magnets, etc. It looks like there are about 20 taps total. We ate the Stout Burger medium rare, french fries and bread pudding. All of it fantastic. I don't think I have ever ordered bread pudding in my entire life but we kept hearing about it. Did not disappoint, very good.

Good beer selection! They have a lot of different ones to choose from. Small restaurant, with a cute little patio area which is where we sat. I recommend the Midas touch beer! They have a lot of burgers and a few salads. Your waitress will tell you that you can't make any changes or substitutions to the menu and all the burgers are served medium rare. If that's your thing, you'll like this place. I can't comment on the food because we only ordered fries and beer, but menu looked decent.

What a boring, boring restaurant. This place sells burgers and beer. That's it. If burgers and beer is your favorite meal, you're in luck. Otherwise, if variety is the spice of your life, you might prefer eating elsewhere. Not only is the menu here limited to burgers, but there are only two veggie and two chicken burgers.... none of which sounded very appealing to me. So I settled for a burger with a fried egg and bacon on it. Sure, it tasted pretty good, but I just thought to myself, "this is it?" Yawn.

つº oº つ RAISE YOUR CUTLERY つº oº つ Stout basically serves two things: Burgers and beer. It really simplifies the whole process of figuring out what you wanna eat, but if you don't like burgers and/or beer, you're gonna have a bad time (though, if that's the case, you probably shouldn't be at Stout in the first place). I really dug the way the restaurant is set up. It has a sort of what I would describe as an industrial garage kind of feel. The door to the restaurant is even one of those types that rolls upward. Look at the bar, it almost feels like you've entered some kind of dystopian steampunk junkyard. Maybe that's a bit of a stretch. Anyway, I ordered the Morning After Burger. which has aged cheddar, rosemary bacon, chipotle ketchup and an egg over easy. Whoever first came up with the idea to put an egg on a burger, I wish I could high-five that person. It's also silly how well it works. As soon as I put that top bun onto my burger the yolk broke, releasing the golden cholesterol-rich liquid into the nooks and crannies of the bun and beyond. Yolk dripped onto my fingers as I raised the burger, and in that moment, all was right with the world. The way that egg yolk affects the texture of each bite is so wonderfully difficult to describe properly. It just...binds everything together, the same way that salts enhances flavors. Yum. And this burger was simple, which is great. The bacon was fantastic, the cheese was perfect, good stuff. I also ordered a side of onion rings with a side of garlic-lemon aioli. They were fine, imagine an average onion ring and you pretty much have it. So, there was something that was missing from the Stout menu. A milkshake. I like beer just fine, but a milkshake? That's unique. Since my party couldn't have milkshakes, we opted to order a dessert. My compatriots and I split both a brownie sundae and a bread pudding, and hoooooooly cow were they good. Stout has perfected dessert, something that the theme of the restaurant doesn't seem to focus on in the first place. The bread pudding comes in an epic arc-shaped bowl that tells the customer, "You made a great decision today. I am here to save you from the tyranny of mediocre desserts." Their desserts are on par with the burgers, really something you shouldn't pass up should you go to Stout. - The Gourmand League

I REALLY wanted to like Stout more but I feel like 3 stars is a fair grade for my experience. Maybe I ordered the wrong burger but I felt like it was just ok. It seemed like every bite tasted a little different and I couldn't tell if I liked the burger or not. One bite was a little dry, the next was good and then the next bite had a little spicy kick to it (I'm not a spicy person unless I'm prepared for spicy). So I had mixed feelings about the "Morning After Burger". We also ordered cheese fries which were pretty good but some how the two melted slices of cheese didn't last that long so we were left with a bowl of regular fries lol. I guess this place is known for pairing burgers with beers which is a good idea. So in order to get the full experience I'm guessing you have to do that. But we really just came for some burgers after drinking green beers for St. Patty's on the pier, so we weren't really into all that. All in all, the service was good and I love the restaurant and it's atmosphere but we probably won't be back. Sorry. OOO 3 out of 5 Afros

I have been (numerous times) to the Stout in Hollywood, Studio City, and Santa Monica. I was so excited when the one in Santa Monica opened up some time ago. I live just up the street and having one so close is awesome! Well, until yesterday (6/18/15). A friend and I went to dine for dinner. I had taken him here before and he fell in love with it just like I had (some time ago). When we walk down there the hostess was super nice and told use to pick a table any table for 2. She came and brought us menus and told us our server would be right with us. No one came by for a good 5 minutes. I worked in the service industry for 10 years waiting tables and bartending and you at least greet the table and grab a drink order within a minute or two. My friend and I had enough time to get our complete order down with time to spare. We both ordered the Goombah burger (med rare), season fries, he ordered an iced tea and I had an Allagash Curieux. Ice tea and beer came out super fast. The beer came out faster than my water did. It was very impressive. While deep in a conversation that my friend and I were having I noticed that we hadn't gotten our food. It wasn't busy and medium rare burgers don't take that long. Not to long after having that thought food came. Yay! While my friend left to wash his hand I cut into what looked like a DELICIOUS burger. My burger was overcooked. I waited to have my friend come back and cut into his before I said anything. His was overcooked as well. So it begins..... It took a second to find out server Britney. She was chatting at the side of the bar. I had to do one of those look around and kind of wave to get her attention. She came over and I showed her the inside and it let her know it was overcooked. She then tried to proceed to tell me that it wasn't. She's a FUCKING BITCH! She stood there and argue with me about how the meat was cooked. A medium rare burger has a warm RED inside! Not a small hint of pink. That's medium well you dumb ass. If I ever argued with the table or someone behind the bar like the way that she argued with me I would be written up or fired for that shit. I told her never mind I would eat it. The burger did not taste nearly the way it should because the meet was overcooked and over cooked meat taste like fucking ass. I would have been more than happy with her taking away both burgers and bring us rare burgers for all I care. After this unacceptably bad experience I will not be recommending or returning to this spot. There are so many other options in Santa Monica.

YES! Yes! YES! On the top of my food pyramid my favorite food group is by far burgers. Stout is in my top 10 list. Their burgers are cooked to perfection, their fries, onion rings, sweet potato fries are so delicious as well. I have tried the Shu and some other fun burger and I have loved them every time I am there. I have no complains about this place. Everything is good. & if you are into burgers and beer this is the place for you. They even invite you to try a specific beer with the particular choice of burger you got. Customer service is great and I have been lucky enough to get seated fast every time.
